The rumored upgrade of the Palm Pre and the Palm Pixi were announced at the CES 2010. Palm CEO Jon Rubenstein unveiled the Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus on stage along with a lot of other exciting upgrades to the WebOS. WebOS now supports video recording + editing along with some super gaming from developers like EA. The best part is that all WebOS devices (i.e. the Pre and the Pixi) would get these upgrades over the air.
Pre Plus and Pixi Plus would be the first Web OS phones to be sold by Verizon. Below are the specification of the two phones.
Palm Pre Plus
- 3.1″ capacitive multi-touch screen
- 3 mega pixel camera with LED flash
- WebOS v1.4
- EVDO REV A
- Internal memory 16GB (not expandable)
- WiFi
- Bluetooth v2.1
- Slide-out QWERTY
Palm Pixi Plus
- 2.6″ capacitive multi-touch screen
- 2 mega pixel camera with LED flash
- WebOS v1.4
- 8GB internal memory (not expandable)
- EVDO REV A
- WiFi
- Bluetooth 2.1
- QWERTY keyboard
Both Pre Plus and the Pixi Plus do not have expandable memory and do not support video calling just like the original devices for Sprint, but the gaming and video support is much more valuable.
The leaked pricing of the two phones, according to a tipster of PhoneArena, makes the two phones reasonably pocketable. The leaked price of Pre Plus is $149.99 with $100 mail-in rebate of course with a contract. As of Pixi Plus, it is $99.99 with some rebate (also on contract). The leaked pricing is the same as that of the Sprint, but these two are the faster models. PhoneArena also says that the pricing is not confirmed. Verizon would be announcing the pricing and the contract details for the two phones on January 25th.
