Palm reveals the next gen device: PALM PRE
January 9th, 2009 by Annkur

From the ashes, here it rises again – Palm Treo + Competition + Criticism + Downfall + Dedication + Palm DNA + Revolutionary New OS + Our Prayers = the PALM PRE
The newness at Palm is now revealed officially. As expected the new Palm OS powered device is fully Touch with iPhone like gestures (in Palm style) and bundles in a sliding QWERTY. I am certain its a winner for PALM. Palm PRE as it is named runs on Palm webOS and delivers more than what we expected.

The PRE combines a refreshingly new OS with a great design. A full 3.1″ touchscreen with a trackball and a Physical QWERTY. Also featured is a 3MP camera with Flash, 8GB internal memory with USB mass storage, accelerometer, removable battery, GPS, WiFi, Stereo Bluetooth, etc.
The touch factor is very much present with the new Palm OS. So you can flick around images, windows, pinch to zoom etc. All is present! Also the communications is redefined. Not just threaded SMS but you can jump from a SMS conversation to a IM chat (continuing the same conversation) in the same window. As we witnessed the innovations that iPhone brought in, PALM just does better!
A detailed comparison with the iPhone is live on iPhoneHelp.
Update: IntoMobile reveals 2 more features of the Palm Pre. Exciting!
1) While you sleep all night the Pre works for you, it has taken your calendar (if you ask it to) and downloaded the maps for your whole day, it’s downloaded the Wikipedias for the people you’re going to visit and the companies you’re going to see … WOW
2) Since the device has GPS, it has a clock, and it has your calendar; it smartly monitors where you are and lets you know if you are going to be late for wherever you are supposed to be headed. Not just that, it gives you the Maps and directions to make it on time! WOW again.
