Playstation Move is Sony’s move towards motion gaming

After Nintendo revolutionized the gaming industry by introducing motion gaming through Wii, Sony and Microsoft started catching up for the same. While Microsoft’s Project Natal is yet to be released, Sony has introduced its – Playstation Move. Sony introduced its motion gaming controller at the Game Developers Conference or the GDC 2010.

The motion gaming controller is an upgrade to the Playstation eye camera. Playstation Move is compatible only with the PS3. The Move system would consist of the Move controller and a sub-controller. The sub-controller would be used for games that require both hand motions. Sony claims that the controller is super-accurate. Here is what they have to say;

“PlayStation Move motion controller delivers unmatched accuracy through its advanced motion sensors, including a three-axis gyroscope, a three-axis accelerometer, and a terrestrial magnetic field sensor, as well as a color-changing sphere that is tracked by PlayStation Eye camera.”

Playstation Move would be sold in three different packages. The basic package would consist of only the controllers. Another package would include the controllers along with Playstation Eye and a Game. The third one is a complete package for the new users. (Including the PS3; No prizes for guessing that though).

36 game publishers have supported the Move system and over 20 Move enabled games would be released in the fiscal 2010.

Sony announced that the second package (Move controllers + Playstation Eye + one game) would be available for around $100. The pricing of the other packages were not announced. The Move system is expected to be available by the holiday season in the US.
