Quick Review: Micromax X600 Gravity

So here is a touchscreen phone which supports dual SIM and its most innovative feature is that you can just use the Gravity sensor (accelerometer) to switch between the two SIMs. You would notice the two speaker phones on the device so there is no right / wrong way to hold this thing. The design looks inspired by the HTC Diamond and while the body looks metal in finish, its plastic. The UI is picked up from the LG Cookie and you have a sidebar from where you can pull out widgets on the home screen. The display brightness and touchscreen sensitivity (its resistive) is not even comparable to the good old Motorola A760, so the less we mention about it the better 🙂

We played around with this thing for an hour, hoping to do a indepth review, but then the though that my life is meant for higher purposes struck. Just kidding, there isn’t much to talk about the X600 gravity. It is a basic phone with touchscreen and a accelerometer gesture for you to play with. The camera / video capabilities are horrible and you certainly ain’t doing any good internet on this (no WiFi either). So if you are looking for a attractive + cheap Dual SIM touchscreen, this might be the one that pleases you. The onscreen QWERTY isn’t the easiest to use, I would have preferred to have a stylus thrown in the mix, else your best friend for typing here would remain to be T9.

This thing has a 3.5mm audio jack and support memory cards (microSD). The audio output was loud enough and with some decent earphones, you might like to use the music capabilities this thing offers. We had sample pictures / video shot from this device, but frankly – its not worth showing. All in all a Rs 4500 phone (USD 100) that looks smart, doesnt work smart.

Rohit Nalwade of KeepTrak Research Labs tells us “cellphones are assigned a SAR rating based on their radiation and if given a choice, I would keep my exposure to the lowest possible”. While there isn’t any conclusive research on cellphone radiation and its illeffects, certifications like the FCC have cut-offs to limit the SAR exposure. We highly recommend that you look for a cellphone with FCC or equivalent international certification.

  • This is a very interesting solution for dual-SIM, but that’s about it. It’s biggest problem is that it’s not really a renowned brand. However, the double signal bars are just adorable 🙂
Personally, I can’t wait for someone to introduce a good and usable dual-SIM business-enabled smartphone.
