Recession Effect: Google exits Newspaper Ad biz

January 21st, 2009 by Annkur

Recession is showing its effects. In a bid to increase its profitability and counter the recession Google has decided to exit from the newspaper Ad space. Back in Nov 2006 Google had began a campaign to help the newspaper industry sell more Ads.

Under the program, potential advertisers were allowed to bid online to fill unsold space in the participating newspapers, leaving it up to publishers whether to accept the offers.

The decision to end this venture would affect some 800 publishers in the US who used Google’s service. This news comes along with other recent news about Google laying off / relocating employees and discontinuing unfruitful products. Clearly the BIG G is trying hard to keep its nose above the rest in tough times.
