Review: Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 Bluetooth Stereo Headphone
July 17th, 2009 by Annkur

Sony Ericsson was kind enough to send across a super sleek HBH-IS800 to us for a review. On first looks this thing appears completely out of this world. As geeky as you can imagine, the IS800 Stereo bluetooth headphones from Sony Ericsson are amazingly sleek and lightweight.
On first look you would fail to recognize that this is actually a Bluetooth headphone and not some other wired thing. The entire design has just two earplugs with a wire connecting them. The only button on the HBH-IS800 and the microphone are built near the left earphone. There are no volume controls on the headset, so you need to rely on your mobile for all audio controls.

The headset comes packed with a clip that plugs the connecting wire to your collar. This is much needed, else believe me you won’t even realize if this thing fell off your shoulders when not in use. Its really tiny and lightweight (12.8 gms). The charger port (and I believe the battery aswell) are built inside the right earphone, probably this is the reason the right earphone feels a little warm after a few minutes of usage (nothing that causes discomfort to me at least).
IS800 comes with a carry box that acts as a much needed protection cover for the headset when you are not using it. This reminds me of my old Sennheiser LX90 that also came with a carry case, but a much simple design. However a trendy carry case with a sleek gadget is always welcome.
I have used this thing for a week and the reception and sound quality is good (though the music doesn’t match up to the normal headsets, its still good). I could use it all day for my calls without much issues. The metal button to answer calls can take a little time to get used to, its a little small (or perhaps the iPhone earphone has spoiled my habits). In out test the HBH-IS800 plays 2 hours 20 mins continuous music before the battery died out. This was at full volume on a Nokia E63, lowering the volume should ideally improve the battery life (probably closer to Sony Ericsson’s claim of 4 hours). [Shall update with more tests on the Sony Ericsson W595 soon!]
The device connected to my N73, Nokia 6233, Sony Ericsson W595 and the Nokia E63 effortlessly and the audio reception with all of these were good. The only little issue I had with this was the earplugs fitting my ear. Though the headset comes with 3 different ear plugs, none of them fit a 100% to me. They tend to fall out occasionally, apart from that this is surely a winner for Sony Ericsson.
