May 1st, 2009 by Kunal

According to the latest rumors, the new Sony Playstation Portable can be expected to launch this June. According to 1UP, Sony may unveil the new PSP in the E3 expo to be held in June ‘09.
The most interesting thing in the rumor is about the form factor of the new PSP and the absence of the UMD drive. The new PSP be a “slider” featuring 8GB or 16GB internal memory to support downloadable games. Sony has already started experimenting on the downloadable games. Around 100 existing PSP games are expected to be available for downloading with the launch of the new PSP.
The controls of the new PSP may remain the same but a new high resolution touchscreen may be expected with them. Rumor also says that the new PSP may be galled PSP Go!
Since Apple has managed to get the iPhone / iPod Touch some cool games via the App Store and expectations of future iPhones being multicore gaming machines, Sony surely has to do something really innovative with the PSP to stay in competition. PSP Go looks good, competition in this space would be interesting after iPhone 3.0 launches.
