Samsung Countersues Apple In Tit for Tat Move, Avoids US

Days after Apple sued Samsung for copying design and UI elements from their products in Samsung’s Galaxy line up of products, Samsung has filed new counter law suits in South Korea, Japan and Germany alleging as many as five patent infringements by Apple. In a statement, Samsung says; “Samsung is responding actively to the legal action taken against us in order to protect our intellectual property.

This latest round of legal tussle is likely to hit both the companies adversely because both of them are dependent on each other for more than one things. Apple is amongst Samsung’s biggest clients, next only to Sony. They supply LCD displays and chips to Apple which form a major chunk of Samsung’s revenue. For the same reason, strange as it may sound, more the number of Apple products with Samsung components sold,  the better it is for Samsung.

That said, it is interesting to note that Samsung has not filed the counter suit in the US – the market that matters the most and where Apple has actually filed its suit. Do you think there is something specific that might have stopped Samsung from doing suing Apple in the US? Point to ponder?
