Samsung Galaxy S II Gets Its First Custom ROM

The Samsung GalaxyS II was released just a few weeks back with an unlocked bootloader, and it has been accepted by the dev community with open arms as it got rooted just two days after its release and now the guys at XDA have managed  to flash a custom ROM on this mean machine.

The devs at XDA have brought out Villainrom, which all the HTC Hero users might be familiar with. The main features of the ROM are that its already rooted, deodexed, re-signed, and also there is not boot sound. So if you have the Samsung Galaxy S II and wish to try this custom ROM, then you can go ahead and follow the procedures below:

Note:

  • Your device does not have to be rooted to flash this custom ROM
  • You will VOID the WARRANTY if you flash this custom ROM
  • Be careful and read the procedure at least two times before flashing
  • Please do not use any Villainrom customizations on this device
  • This ROM is based on the O2 Samsung Galaxy S II which was released in the U.K so flash at your own risk

Requirements:

  • You need Odin (You can get it from XDA developers website easily by just searching for it)
  • Download the VillainROM from here

Procedure:

  • First fire up Odin
  • Choose the PDA slot and browse to the folder where you downloaded the .tar file from above and select it
  • Check that nothing other than Auto reboot and F.Reset time are selected
  • Click on start
  • Odin will flash the ROM on your device it will automatically reboot into Villainrom
