Samsung has sent out launch invitations for the Galaxy Unpacked event for unveiling the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship phones. The successors of the Galaxy S8 and S8+ will be debuting on 25th February. It will be a pre-MWC 2018 event as the tech trade fair is slated to begin on 26th February in Barcelona, Spain.
The launch event will begin at 6 PM CET (10:30 PM IST) on 25th February. The company will also be livestreaming the event for its worldwide fans. The description of the launch invitation reads, “If a picture is worth a thousand words, the latest member of the Galaxy family has a lot to say. On 25th February, Samsung Electronics will showcase the next generation of Galaxy devices that reimagines the camera and redefines the way you share your moments.” This clearly hints that the next-generation Galaxy S series smartphones will be arriving with upgraded camera technology.
Recent reports have claimed that the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will be featuring a new ISOCELL module that was officially launched in October 2017. Equipped with Samsung’s “Tetracell technology,” it is capable of capturing impressive shots in low light conditions. With Smart WDR onboard, it will be able to shoot multiple exposures in a single shot.
Another rumor claims that depending on the light conditions, the cameras of the Galaxy S9 duo will able to smartly switch between aperture range between f/1.5 and f/2.4. The variable camera aperture was introduced by Samsung on the W2018 clamshell phone that is exclusively available in China. The new camera sensors on the Galaxy S9 and S9+ will bring support for super slow-motion video shooting at 480 fps. Leaked information has revealed that compared to the Galaxy S9, the S9+ will be a premium model that will feature higher specs including 12-megapixel dual rear cameras. The Galaxy S9 is expected to house a single lens on its rear. For shooting selfies, these phones are likely to feature an autofocus enabled 8-megapixel camera.
The Samsung Galaxy S9 is rumored to house a 5.8-inch S-AMOLED display whereas the S9+ may feature a 6.2-inch S-AMOLED. Both the phones are expected to come with Infinity Display design that was first seen on Galaxy S8 and S8+ phones. Also, the S9 duo will be carrying support for 18.5:9 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution.
The Snapdragon 845 mobile platform is expected to power the S9 and S9+ variants heading to the U.S. and China. The global variants are likely to feature the Exynos 9810 chipset. The S9 may come with 4 GB of RAM and 3,000mAh battery whereas the S9+ would be packed with 6 GB of RAM and 3,500mAh battery.
The Galaxy S9 and S9+ are speculated to arrive with support for 15W fast charging as well as wireless charging. Both the phones are expected to be available in 64 GB and 128 GB storage options. Some reports claim that there could be a 512 GB storage variant. Other common features arriving on these phones include AI, better face identification capabilities, and AKG- tuned earphones.
After getting launched on Feb. 25, Samsung is expected to start the pre-orders of Galaxy S9 and S9+ on March 1 and the official sales may begin on March 16. In India, the next-generation Galaxy S series may arrive in early April.
