Share data across iPhones through the ‘Bump’

Students at the University of Chicago have developed an iPhone application wherein users can transfer contact information by “bumping” their iPhones into each other. The ‘Bump’ application can be used to transfer full contact information or any other selected data. The information transfer is quick as it takes less than 10 seconds to share the data. There’s a video of the application in action at the end of this post.
The developers of this application have prepared a unique algorithm that runs on their server in the cloud. The algorithm matches the phones that feel same ‘Bump’. The two phones that show the same bump via the iPhone sensor are then paired and the information is transferred.
But what if more than one pair are bumping at the same time with similar intensities? The application uses other information like location and the bump algorithm to properly match up the phones. Even if the bumps from different iPhones clash or the bump intensity just doesn’t match, the application prompts its users to start the app again. This ensures that the transfer is between the right pair of phones.
