Sony Announces New 13.3 Inch S-Series Notebook With “Sheet Battery”

Sony has unveiled its latest offering in the Vaio S-Series laptop segment by announcing a new 13.3 inch model. The new model boasts of a 1366 x 768 pixel display and is claimed to be the first laptop with a “sheet battery” option.

The laptop, already available from Sony Style store is customizable and supports second-generation Core i7 processors and even supports the AMD Radeon HD 6630M GPU with 1GB of dedicated memory. It tips the scales at 3.8 pounds and is just about an inch thick. The design is nothing much to talk about with it having no chance to win a beauty competition. This notebook is slightly larger than other offerings in the 13 inch segment that Sony has and also gets the option to be customized with a blue ray drive. It has an USB 3.0 port for faster data transfer.

If you are wondering about the sheet battery we were on about earlier, let us now tell you what it is all about. This additional option accessory for the laptop can be connected to the bottom of the machine to provide direct power to the laptop – bypassing the internal battery. Once the sheet battery runs out of charge you can switch to the fully charged internal battery. Thanks to this accessory, the laptop would be able to provide up to 15 hours of battery backup.  The internal battery is rated for 7.5 hours of usage on a single charge.

The new S-Series laptop is available in black and white color options and comes with a 750GB hard drive option. The price starts at $969. The sheet battery costs an additional $150.
