Surf’s down! Google Wave subsides

It was heralded as the ultimate communication platform, something that was a mix of IM, social networking, wikis and e-mail, but Google Wave has finally subsided. In spite of all the hype surrounding it at the launch as being a potential threat to Facebook and Twitter, the service really could not hold its own, partly because users could not get to grips with it, and mainly because many did not feel too inclined to try out yet another communication-oriented service (many more were attracted to the relatively easier to use Google Buzz). The result was a steep fall in the number of users, which eventually led to Google pulling the plug on what was arguably one of its more audacious ventures of the past year. First the Microsoft Kin and now, Google Wave. My, 2010 is not being too kind to social networking ventures by the big guns. We are keeping our fingers crossed for Yahoo! Pulse, though.

  • You might. Google is said to be porting a lot of Wave touches to its other apps. Would love Docs to get more interactive as well.
