Probably the first dual sim Android device, the General Mobile DSTL1 which kept us excited waiting for long has finally hit the stores. Not too expensive at $499 (as announced at mobile world congress earlier) the DSTL1 is a full featured touchscreen powered by Android v1.5.
Specs:
- GSM/GPRS/EDGE (2.5G sans 3G / HSDPA)
- 5MP autofocus camera with LED flash
- 4GB internal memory
- 3″ resistive touchscreen
- Dual Sim with dual-standby mode
- 624MHz processor
- WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, FM
- Weight 135g
Currently available on Amazon and Art of Hitech in US, this might do better in the Asian countries which are yet to embrace 3G.

Google has given a little sneak peak inside Android 2.0 aka Donut @ Google I/O. As heard before they have handwriting support (and thats on a capacitive touscreen it seems) and Android Search, that will compete with the iPhone Spotlight / Palm Pre universal search.

A recent video on YouTube shows off the new Android UI that can be expected along with the launch of HTC Hero (yes the Android with 3.5mm headset jack that we saw earlier) + Android 2.0 – Donut. The placement of gadgets on the homescreen in the video appears similar to the widget based homescreen on the upcoming Nokia N97.
Expected to come in Q3 2009, this might undergo lot of changes. A digital clock on the home-screen would certainly save some space :) video downstairs

For long we thought that iPhone rumors were the most frequented on my Google Reader list, but Android seems to be buzzing! After the rollout of the Android firmware version 1.5 (codenamed Cupcake), rumors about Android 2.0 is catching up fast. It is said that the Android V2.0 is codenamed “Donut”. Cupcake aka V1.5 did bring some good features, hope 2.0 manages to live up to the Android hype.

Left: Samsung BigFoot, Right: Rumored Motorola device
Also in news is the T-Mobile G1 revision (which I beleive will be seen with the Android 2.0 OS – aka Donut). Leaked images suggest that this could be either a Samsung (Bigfoot) or Motorola, with a physical QWERTY keyboard (we already saw motorola’s plans for a Android with physical Qwerty). Thats a surprise as the original G1 was by HTC. Interesting developments though…
