Forrester Research’s independent study has found out that iPhone users are younger, educated more affluent and even more productive than average smartphone user or non-iPhone user.
The study was conducted on 32,228 iPhone users back in 2008. The study says that those who use an iPhone are more active and browse more Internet than other phone users.
Ted Schadler, found that the iPhone users are “more than twice as likely to access the Internet from their phone as working Blackberry, Palm, or Windows Mobile device owners.” Many employees involved in the study said that they prefer to use an iPhone at work, even if its not been provided by the employer.
The study was conducted before the $199 pricing iPhone 3G was announced. About one and a half year back started study mostly surveys the 1st gen iPhone users who has to shell out $499 upwards for the Apple phone. The pricing explains the iPhone users being richer than the others. iPhone users being younger and more educated can also be understood.
But, iPhone users being more productive than non-iPhone user is based on the Internet usage of the iPhone users. The study says that the iPhone users connect to the Internet atleast once in a week thus validating the Internet rich capabilities of the iPhone platform.
Anyways, with too many changes in the iPhone since the study was conducted, Forrester Research plans to revisit the study to observe the changes in the user demographics of iPhone. Till then you can grab a $99 iPhone 3G and consider yourself young, rich & smart

Magnetometer or a compass is already a feature on the T-mobiles’s G1. The BGR’s debug of the Apple 3.0 suggest that the iPhone would too sport a magnetometer. The magnetometer requires special hardware support. So, i guess it would be availabe only on the new iPhone (3rd gen).
The Magnetometer would support many other interesting feature besides a needle pointing towards the North pole. The magnetometer, coupled with your GPS chip and the camera, would give you detailed information about where you are and which direction you need to go along with the names and descriptions of the Buildings you see around you. Sounds like lot of work.

Apple is certainly now new to lawsuites, however this one is certainly very interesting. Apple has now been sued for promoting the iPhone as a ebook reader. Apparently the concept of a touchscreen ebook reader has been patented over 7 yers ago by Switzerland-based MONEC Holding Ltd.
A self-described “leading innovator for mobile, globally usable communication solutions,” MONEC claims to be in the business of “developing and marketing equipment for the transmission of data to mobile electronics communication systems, managing and utilizing patents in this area and awarding licenses.” [Source]
While the lawsuit doesnt make any direct reference, it is certain that Amazon’s free Kindle App has resulted this (Kindle is not the first ebook reader for the iPhone though). We really believe that such claims are unreasonable and goes against the smartphone culture that is fast picking up globally. Handhelds are going to be multipurpose and softwares would explore unseen capabilities of these samartphones. A ebook reader on the iPhone certainly brings the service to the masses and thats what matters the most!

Although the 1st Gen iPhone never made it to Asia officially, we saw thousands of them coming in Unlocked and selling like Hot Cakes. But this might not be the case with New iPhone 3G which is due to launch in India and several other countries later this year.
The original iPhone were sold by Apple Stores (online and offline) without a AT&T contract activated. This allowed traders to purchase these devices from Apple and instead of going over to AT&T to activate a plan under the 2yr contract with them, the devices were exported out of the US. But this time around since the iPhone’s are significantly subsidized by Apple / AT&T (starting @ $199) a lot of care has been taken to avoid a similar situation.
The new Apple iPhone 3G wont sell online ++ you cannot buy it without activating a service plan from AT&T (even at the Apple stores). So we believe that this time iPhones wont make it to the Grey markets and fans would have to wait for the official launch by Vodafone and Airtel.
Since the supply of the original 1st Gen iPhone has stopped the Grey Market rates for the same has jumped by nearly Rs 9000 ($200) in India.

An update to Exchange 2007 released by Microsoft should solve problems that may have prevented e-mail from Exchange Server 2007 from being received by Apple’s iPhone.
Thursday the software maker released Rollup 3, the third update to the Exchange Server 2007. The update, which should address issues some have with Apple Mac Mail, came just ahead of Friday’s U.S. release of the iPhone.
It will hopefully resolve some of the issues users have encountered, including certain Internet Message Access Protocol (IMAP) clients being unable to open e-mail messages accessing mailboxes on a Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 server.
The update will be available via Microsoft Update and at the Microsoft Download Center.

After six months of unprecedented hype, thousands of people Friday will get their hands on the iPhone, the new cell phone that Apple Inc. is banking on to become its third core business next to its moneymaking iPod players and Macintosh computers.
By early evening Thursday, short lines of eager customers were camped out at Apple and AT&T stores across the nation. The gadget, which combines the functions of a cell phone, iPod media player and wireless Web browser, will go on sale in the United States at 6 p.m. Friday in each time zone.
At Apple’s flagship store in New York City, the trickle of customers that began queuing up since Monday grew to about 50 people late Thursday, ready to brave yet another rainy night on the pavement of Fifth Avenue, outside the only 24-hour Apple store.
‘It’ll be interesting to see how well it really works,” Cram, a flight instructor, said Thursday at a cafe next door to the Apple store in Burlingame, where lines hadn’t yet appeared.
Apple has not disclosed how many iPhones will available at launch. But analysts expect it will sell out by early next week between sales rung up at retail stores and online through Apple’s Web site, which has been a major distribution outlet for other Apple products.

Steve Jobs expected to sell 10 million of the devices by the end of 2008, that’s when the iPhone was first introduced back in January. As the days passed, with all the global hype around the device leading up to its June 29 launch, 10 Million seems to be a conservative figure.
According to Business Week, Apple will have 3 million iPhones ready for sale on opening day.
But the iPhone launch is about more than the numbers. While Apple won’t be the first to wrap a smart phone and music player into one device, the iPhone has a decent chance of popularizing the combo. Many of us carry at least two devices around with us, usually a phone and a music player.
The iPhone, if designed with the same elegance as the iPod, might meld phone and music together for good. Carrying two devices might seem redundant. That could, of course, have profound effects on both the wireless handset and MP3 player industries.

According to Reuters, Apple has confirmed that its iPhone multimedia device will hit the U.S. market on June 29, available exclusively through AT&T Inc.
The touch-screen phone will be priced from $500-$600. The iPhone does not have a keypad, instead sports a touch-sensitive screen. The device was unveiled to a packed audience in early January this year by Steve Jobs, Apple’s Chief Executive Officer. Jobs had said the iPhone would appear in stores in June, but had given no specific date at the time.
During the keynote, Jobs described the iPhone as ‘revolutionary’ and demonstrated its features, including Multi-Touch, a touch screen display system that can differentiate between and react to simultaneous touch from two fingers.
The iPhone features a 3.5-inch display, 2-megapixel camera, headset and audio jacks, and an iPod dock. The first iPhone model would be quad-band GSM, meaning it would work in almost every major country in the world. And data transmission would be supported by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and EDGE.

Apple’s iPhone came a step closer to reaching the hands of eager US consumers today after the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that it had approved the device.
“The iPhone has passed its required FCC certification milestone and is on schedule to ship in late June as planned,” Apple spokeswoman Natalie Kerris told Reuters. US telecoms firm AT&T plans to start selling the iPhone late next month.
The FCC requires that all devices using the wireless spectrum are tested and approved before being released. Regulations limit the amount of power output and spectrum use in wireless devices.
The agency has made the test results publicly available, although sensitive information such as internal photographs and the user manual were not posted at Apple’s request.
Good Luck iPhone !!
