Gizmo mod: HDD to Digital Clock (Strobeshnik)

March 7th, 2010

Do you have an old Hard Drive eating dust on some top shelf of your work place? If you do, here is a cool way to use it and make some of your friends go wow for your new gizmo clock. All you have to do is follow the mod done by Svofski.

Modder Svofski converted his old hard drive into a digital clock using some LEDs and a controller circuit. The controller circuit and the LEDs are mounted behind the platter of the hard disk. LEDs glow to show the time on the rotating drive platter. The stroboscopic effect makes the numbers look persistent on the face of drive platter, while actually the numbers are created by the LEDs behind the platter.Check out the video to see the mod in action. Gorillapod: Geeky portable magnetic tripod

February 19th, 2010

Amateur photographers often use the digital cameras for photography and avoid carrying a tripod for its bulky nature. Another limitation of using traditional tripods is that they can be mounted only on flat surfaces. Gorillapod Magnetic allows the user to mount it on any magnetic surface while still keeping the camera bag lightweight.

The Gorillapod from Joby weighs only 45 grams and can hold cameras that weight upto 325 grams. It uses the universal 1/4″ tripod screw for connecting to the camera. The flexible legs can be wrapped around any surface and the magnetic feet allow it to be attached to any magnetic surface. This allows its user to take pictures in any angles and also avoids the need for a flat base.

The Gorillapod Magnetic is available for a price of (more…)

RUG with Scale!

February 9th, 2010

Are you the one who is not happy with their weight? (To tell you the truth mostly all of us aren’t). We usually tend to avoid stepping on the weighing scale fearing the worst. Well heres one way to ensure that you step on one daily. Its the door mat (door mat again!) or a rug that comes fitted with a digital glowing scale that shows the user’s previous weight, present weight, and goal weight. Its designed by Kwon Sunman, wonder what was the inspiration behind this one! Though by the looks of it, its much more cosy and comfortable than the traditional ones. Also you do have the option to detach the rug for cleaning purposes or attaching a new one as per your taste.

Right now this is just a concept. Would definitely like to have one though when its ready…

Talking Computers, the next generation of computing

January 5th, 2010

Remember how we are awed by the Talking robots which appear in Movies. Be it Flubber with the flying talking Robot, or the sweet little Wall-E, they all amaze us. But in a few years Movies will not be the only platform you will be seeing these computers in, they will be there with us, in our homes. Artificial Intelligence, Speech Recognition and Machine Vision will be the key features on which the next generation of Computers will be based, says Google’s director of research Peter Norvig. “I think we are always reinventing things, which I think is good,” he says candidly. “You always try to attract the best people and you can’t attract a person whose job is to just maintain something that was built 10 years ago. The top people don’t want to do that, they want to invent their own.” (more…)

You just put the speaker ring on your thumb and microphone on your little finger and all set to speak through your hand. This is one gadget concept that looks so possible to me, specially after seeing the Sony HBH IS800 recently.

Yes this is actually a USB Flash Drive with 4GB memory. The Rusted Steampunk pendrive is one of the coolest USB drives we have seen. With handmade design built over a Sandisk Cruzer (as it seems) this one is a great eye catcher.

Perhaps keeping such a USB thumbdrive will help me avoid people borrowing my gadgets :D
