Nexus One proves how important carrier tie-ups are!

If there is anything that the poor sales of the Google Nexus One proves to me, its the control, the evil control rather – that the US carriers have over the mobile market. Long before Google unveiled the Nexus one, it was rumored that Cupertino is cooking plans to end the carrier raj in US. In their small way they did, however Nexus One was tied to T-Mobile. Selling solely over the Internet, NexusOne is surely rated high by the powerusers. I can see the craze amongst my friends on twitter here in India (with a few luck ones getting the device already).

So why did it do just 80000 units in the first month? (more…)

Nexus One: We are Underwhelmed

At last it is out in the open – Google finally launched its Nexus One handset a few hours ago. And while most of the tech world has responded with enthusiasm, one can just about hear the traces of disappointment out there.

Blame it on Apple, but we have been a tad spoilt by surprises hitting us on the day a product is released. In each of the three iPhones, people had a fair idea of what was going to be released but every time Apple managed to pull a rabbit out of its hat, whether it was the App Store on the 3G or the amazing video recording and editing options on the 3GS.

Did the Google phone just leaked out?

The old rumor of an Google phone got a dose of reality with claims that the HTC made device pictured above is actually the Google Phone! Apparently, a San-Francisco based blogger, Cory O’Brian, got his hands on the Google phone, called the ‘Nexus One’ (name confirmed by WSJ) . When Google ain’t talking about it officially, employees testing the device tweet and show-off the Google phone with pride. A few days back Google also confirmed that they testing a “mobile lab” device. The device is also been given to many employees for testing. Obviously there is no ‘official’ confirmation if this phone is THE Google phone or the rumored HTC Passion.
