Motorola CEO Mr Sanjay Jha revealed during their last quarter earnings call that they are indeed working on a Google branded phone. I can imagine that a co like Motorola that is making a comeback to the mobile arena and going profitable again with good releases like the Droid, needs to gather some media spotlight / momentum before it actually rolls out devices and this early disclosure of ‘Motoogle‘ phone is nothing but that. Mr Jha didn’t give any specific details on the Google branded phone, but this announcement comes just days after we heard the Droid 2 / Nexus 2 report. So did we really see the next Google phone as pictures below?

Apple / Palm often claim their software+hardware integration is unmatched. And perhaps this is where Google and Microsoft are now working towards, by closely working with handset manufacturers to (more…)

With Android OS version 2.x Google has really went aggressive in the smartphone market. They pushed the Motorola Droid and the Nexus One beyond belief and managed to create a good hype for the Android superphones. Now this alien looking (Droid II?) that you see in the picture above has leaked out to wow us. Dubbed the Motorola Shadow Phantom this device has the MotoDroid DNA, but rumors suggest that this might be the upcoming upgrade to the Google Nexus (Nexus Two?).
Fueling the rumors of Motorola making the next update to the Google Nexus series was Mr Sanjay Jha’s (CEO Motorlola) presence during the original Nexus One (made by HTC) launch. As engadget points out, this may be nothing more than a fan made render, but this one sure looks sexy. Personally though the little edge on the bottom for just a strap isn’t something I would expect in smartphones of 2010, enough for me to mark this as a fake. Another shot after the break. (more…)

From consumer complaints to confusion to the software problems, Google is seeing it all. But this one has come right out of the blue.
From what we read, it seems like Nexusone is being sued for copyright violations.

Now this one starts with Philip K Dicks novel “Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?”. This book was widely appreciated and thence later made into a sci-fi movie called “Blade Runner” having Harrison Ford and Rutger Hauer in the lead , which again was a huge hit among the sci-fi movie fans. (more…)

Google had a Android press event scheduled for next week. Though no specific details about what to expect is out, the word on the street is that the Nexus One would see an official unveiling at the event. Its been a year since we saw the first Android G1 and since then the devices have poured in plenty. The Motorola Droid that runs the latest Android 2.0 has been rated the gadget of the year and this Android event would ideally be a platform where Google would highlight whats next! The rumors of Nexus One making a official launch at this event is supported by leaked screenshots of the Nexus One’s order page.
As per the screen grabs of the landing page that is seen, the NexusOne shall be offered with and without contract. Nexus One on a T-mobile contract for 2 yrs would cost you $180 with a Nexus plan of $79. The unsubsidized version would cost $530. But what Google really plans with this is a mystery. After denying that they are getting into hardware, this seems to be a Android device that Google has designed and is promoting under its own banner (expected to be sold at google.com/phone). We should expect some clarity next week. Till then keep drooling over the leaked Nexus One videos and pictures. (more…)

The full specifications (unofficial) and a few details about the retail format of the Nexus One have leaked out. Rumor has it that the handset would be sold on an “invite-only” format. The first lot may be sold to developers followed by the invite-only sales. A full T-mobile retail launch would follow the invite-only sales. There is no news on when the switch from invite-only retail to the full retail would take place.
The specifications say that the Nexus One is powered by the Qualcomm 1GHz processor. The OS is Android 2.1 and the handset would feature a 5MP camera. Hit the jump for the continues specs list. Also check the preview video of the Google Nexus One. (more…)

The phone, which is making news through some leaked pics from Twitter, has been approved by FCC. The HTC NexusOne – or the rumored Google Phone – is said to to have been leaked by employees of Google, and has undergone some additions to its rumored specification sheet after the FCC approval.
The FCC coding reveals that the phone is developed by HTC and has been named ‘NEXUSONE’. The added features now include microSD support, 802.11b/g WiFi, and (more…)

The old rumor of an Google phone got a dose of reality with claims that the HTC made device pictured above is actually the Google Phone! Apparently, a San-Francisco based blogger, Cory O’Brian, got his hands on the Google phone, called the ‘Nexus One’ (name confirmed by WSJ) . When Google ain’t talking about it officially, employees testing the device tweet and show-off the Google phone with pride. A few days back Google also confirmed that they testing a “mobile lab” device. The device is also been given to many employees for testing. Obviously there is no ‘official’ confirmation if this phone is THE Google phone or the rumored HTC Passion.
Cory O’Brian also tweets (more…)

Since our last views on the Google phone that TechCrunch was positive on, there have been a couple of more rumors/speculation hitting the streets. While TC came under fire universally after predicting that the Google phone (where many are citing Google’s Andy Rubin who said that Google isn’t getting into hardware), there are a couple of reports (rather an update by TC and an analyst prediction) suggesting that Google won’t be making a conventional cellphone after all, instead it can possibly be a VOIP device with unlimited calling powered either by Google Voice and its latest acquisition Gizmo5 or something similar, while rendering regular carriers like AT&T and T-Mobile as just data pipes.
We aren’t new (more…)

There have been enough rumours, and an equal number of ‘NO’ responses by Google. But somehow the keen interest by Google in the mobile phone industry (more than half of Google’s web products are available for handsets – case in point: the Android) makes me ask: what’s next? Somehow, all roads (or more roads) are leading up to a Google Phone.
All the work Google has put into the Android OS with the Motorola Droid, HTC Droid Eris, and other Android phones appear to have just been a (more…)

Rumors suggested that Apple would launch 6 different iPhones (unlikely I know), but Google actually claims that 9 different manufacturers will release as many as 20 Android based smartphones by year-end. Google’s Andy Rubin had earlier spoken that it takes 18 moths to build a device end-to-end and hence the drought of Android smartphones in the past few months after the G1, however after a long silence Android based smartphones will hit the markets all at once it seems. We already have the HTC Magic going on sale and many more like the Samsung i7500, HTC Hero, Motorola Androids are showing up…
As per reports these devices would come up in different versions ranging from No Google Integration to a completely Google centric Android. We can also expect a Google logo on some of these smartphones. Also not to forget the Android Netbooks…

Bad news for Android fans expecting new releases at MWC next week. Apparently Samsung has delayed its Android phone to the second half of 2009. Samsung currently offers full touchscreen devices like the iPhone competitor Instinct and Windows Mobile powered Omnia; it is believed that Samsungs Android offering would be designed on similar lines.

Since almost a year
we are speaking about the Google Phone aka Android platform. Google realizes that the handheld’s market will offer tremendous growth in the coming years, and Android will ensure that it holds a good share of the mobile market. Data usage on mobile devices is on a rise and most telecom companies estimate that in coming years the Data revenue would be much more than what it is today.
We also saw some preview videos and spy shots, but here we now have a better idea of what the Android holds for us (+Video):
Google recently demoed the HTC Dream at a conference which highlighted the potential of Android platform. The HTC dream is a big device with a 5″x3″ touch screen, a slider keyboard and a accelerometer like the iPhone which lets your tilt the device for navigation or scrolling. But that shouldn’t give you the impression that all Android devices are going to be high-end touchscreen. In a previous demo we have already seen (Video Downstairs) that the Android would come in different types ranging from QWERTY, normal number pad with trackball or a touch like iPhone.
Many manufacturers are developing devices for the Android and by 2008 end we would start to see the announcements. The heart of a Android device is its Open Source nature. The hardware is merely a facilitator of what is being developed, the software offers the real GOLD. We also hear rumors that Google would offer a app store for Android users to get their hands on the latest applications and innovations. (more…)

Over the past one week we have read numerous articles by reputed publishers on a possible Gphone. Reportedly Google has invested hundreds of Millions of dollars on the development of the possible Gphone.
However this is not the first time that such rumors (or unconfirmed News as we would call it) has emerged. But Google expressed its interest on developing Mobile apps.
Recently there has been a race between Google and other Internet giants to get hold of the Mobile search market. And as it appears now Google is going the Apple way with a possible Gphone (Google Phone) which will give Google Apps a distinctive boost.
“The Google phone project consists of creating numerous prototype phones and software, costing in the hundreds of millions of dollars. Much of the development work is being conducted at a facility in Boston, and is working on sophisticated new Web browser for cellphones.”
As per reports there are several Google Phone prototypes kicking around, including hardware that has been produced with partners like LG Electronics. HTC of Taiwan is reportedly working on Linux-based handset (with Google apps) for launch in Q1 2008.
What it appears here is that Google will only partner with Manufacturers and Networks to better market its Ads and Apps on mobile.Hardware business is known for its thin margins and Google wont get into such an uncharted territory. Instead it will look to maintain and concrete its position as a software developer.
From Google PC, Google OS to Google Phone now that we have heard it all. Only time will tell whats really coming.
