How your iPod classic / netbook would support 320GB

Toshiba has unveiled the largest capacity 1.8″ HDD, the MK3233GSG, supporting 320 GB of data storage. The MK3233GSG offers SATA interface, 3.0Gbps data trf speeds at 5400 RPM. The hard drive isn’t in mass production yet, but we are sure netbook / PMP manufacturers would already be lining up to place a few orders.

Samsung unveils two new high capacity S line External Hard Drives

Targeting this increasing demand for portable media, Samsung has announced two new external Hard Drives to boost its external storage lineup. The new S line hard drives have a storage capacity of 640Gb and 2Tb. Both these drives break the previous barrier of 500Gb sleek external drives from Samsung. The stylish S2 (640Gb) drive is 2.5″ long whereas the S3 (2Tb) is 3.5″ long.

“As consumer demands continue to escalate for storing personal data, music and video files, Samsung has expanded its extensive family of external hard drives to support the growing personal storage market. The new drives provide users with a sleek design and high-density choices in both 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch form factors.” says Cheol-hee Lee, VP of Marketing and storage systems division at Samsung Electronics.

Both the drives feature Safety Key, Secret Zone and Auto Backup functionality. The 640Gb S2 hard drive is expected to hit the shelves by the end of this month whereas the 2Tb S3 would be available in the first quarter 2010. No news on pricing as of now.

Seagate 1.5TB HDD

GBs are out and TBs are in.

Seagate has come up with this 1.5TB hard-drive. 1500GBs – that can store the world on four platters of 375 GB each. Now when we hear of tera-bite hard-drives only two things come to our mind – size and speed. Seagate took care of both of them. It has the spindle rotating at 7200 rpm with a32mb cache, and thats what makes it perform better than four platter 1TB drives like the terabyte Barracuda and the WD Caviar Black. And its still 4 inches thick.

Philips presents 1TB External HDD = 1024GB

Philips presented first external single disk non removable disk with 1 Terabyte capacity on the IT-fair Computex labeled SPD5130. The non removable disk is to come in the coming weeks into the trade.

The drive according to Philips website will include a thick aluminum shock-proof case, 32 MB buffer for speedy performance, 1 touch backup functionality and a heat control system.

The drive is now shipping and is available for a cost US$ 499.
