Apple isn’t content with just counter-suing Nokia over patents, Cupertino has actually gone ahead and filed a suit against HTC for infringing 20 of its patents. While nothing is very clear as of now and just as the Nokia vs Apple battle seems long drawn with ITC and multiple suits coming in picture, we can expect similar action between Apple and HTC in coming weeks / months.
All Apple discloses officially is that the patent infringement is related to the “iPhone’s user interface, underlying architecture and hardware.” Here is the official release: (more…)

“Welcome to the world of direct sales”, says users and “Google aren’t ready for customer support as they have never sold hardware before” is what analysts have to say.
With the deluge of the customer queries and complaints coming Google’s way, its ironic that the best they can do is answer their customers via email and that too with a Turn-Around Time of one to two days.
That is something which reflects on Google’s ability to service customer as inept but at the same time shows that they weren’t ready for this and (more…)

The key specifications of the HTC Smart are -

At last it is out in the open – Google finally launched its Nexus One handset a few hours ago. And while most of the tech world has responded with enthusiasm, one can just about hear the traces of disappointment out there.
Blame it on Apple, but we have been a tad spoilt by surprises hitting us on the day a product is released. In each of the three iPhones, people had a fair idea of what was going to be released but every time Apple managed to pull a rabbit out of its hat, whether it was the App Store on the 3G or the amazing video recording and editing options on the 3GS.
Google, alas, has not really done (more…)

HTC’s official twitter handle in Russia accidentally tweeted about a Windows Mobile 7 update for the HD2 coming soon. This was indeed good news for HD2 owners who surely deserve better than the current WM 6.5 on such a beautiful piece of hardware. However the tweet was deleted promptly and labeled as an ‘error’. But once the expectations have been raised, no matter how many denials come our way, we know that there is a good chance that this wasn’t an error, but a accidental leak.

Microsoft’s much anticipated Windows Mobile 7 (more…)

HTC Legend is believed to be the successor of the HTC Hero and we have leaked picture (rendered) and rumored specification list. The Hero successor has undergone some essential upgradation while still maintaining the elegance and the ease-of-use of its predecessor.
While b0th the handsets have the same screen size and resolution, HTC Legend will be the first HTC handset to feature an AMOLED touchscreen. Legend packs in a optical sensor instead of the trackball we saw in the Hero and also adds a LED flash to the camera. A faster 600MHz qualcomm processor will power the Legend. Other specs are mostly the same as that of HTC Hero. Below is the specification list of the HTC Legend. (more…)

We recently had a chance to mess with two new Android devices, the Samsung Galaxy i7500 and the HTC Hero. Although on the surface, these two seem rather alike (3.2 inch capacitive touchscreens, Android 1.5, 5 MP shooter, GPS with compass), no two devices could be more different. And no, we are not yammering about the fact that the Galaxy has more onboard memory (8GB to the Hero’s relatively modest 500-odd MB) or that it has an OLED screen or that its camera has a flash, but about the interface.
Whereas Sammy has opted to let the Galaxy have the typical Android device look (complete with analog clock), HTC has decided to be far more innovative and thrown a skin over it. Called Sense, the UI is the successor of the much-hyped Touch Flo, and is certainly a heckuva differentiator. Unlike some manufacturers who just use skins to accommodate larger and more finger-friendly icons (these are the stylus’ last days, after all), HTC have made Sense something that adds to the Android experience. Instead of three customisable screens, the user gets a massive seven. Most significantly, the browser and the album have been tweaked to accommodate multi-touch – so you can zoom in and out of pages by pinching your fingers just like you can on (more…)

HTC Leo looks real sleek and the 4.3″ touchscreen with a complete black look is really attractive. Makes me forget the looks of the HTC Hero for a moment. Leo is said to be powered by 1GHz snapdragon processor and would be powered by Windows Mobile V6.5. This is expected to go on sale sometime in september / october.
The rumored specs reveal a 8MP camera, 320MB RAM, HSDPA / WiFi / Bluetooth along with the now standard accelerometer and other sensors.

Airtel and HTC have introduced India’s first handset featuring the Google Android OS. And its not the G1 (thankfully) but the HTC Magic. Airtel would also be providing few utility based applications with the HTC magic – Portfolio Manager, Hello Tune Manager, Weather Channel, Mobshare, In-mobile search and City Search to name a few.
“Airtel has been at the forefront of innovation and customer delight in the Indian telecom sector. Being the first to bring the Android-powered HTC Magic to India further underscores our commitment to enrich the communication experience of all Airtel users,” said Raghunath Mandava, Chief Marketing Officer, Mobile Services, Bharti Airtel. “The HTC Magic presents a powerful mobile internet and multimedia experience that should drive the uptake of accessing the internet over mobile amongst Airtel users.”
“HTC is proud to partner with Airtel in launching the much-anticipated Android-powered HTC Magic in India. The HTC Magic opens up a whole new world of possibilities for people to enrich and customize their mobile phone. HTC has always been known for its industry firsts and technology advancements, and is thus a natural partner to Airtel.” said Jack Tong, Vice President, HTC Asia.
HTC magic features a 3.2″ TFT-LCD touchscreen with a 3.2 Mp camera and Trackball. It comes with a Smart Dialer and an on-screen keyboard. HTC magic would also allow free data download upto 100Mb to Airtel customers for the first six months. The phone is priced at Rs. 30,000 in India and will be available across all Airtel Relationship Centres and HTC resellers across 17 cities in India. It would be interesting to see how this lines up against the upcoming iPhone 3GS, which would incidentally be launched by Airtel (and Vodafone) itself.

After suing Nokia for over $15 bln last year IPCom has now locked horns with HTC. Apparently IPCom owns some patents related to UMTS technology (that it had bought from OPCom) and would require HTC to get into a licensing agreement with IPcom. If an agreement cannot be reached HTC would be prohibited from selling the affected products in Germany.
Popular HTC devices like G1 and Magic use this technology; while other Windows Mobile offerings from HTC also rely on the same.

Sony Ericsson tried its luck with Windows Mobile powered by HTC (as ODM). But it seems they aren’t too pleased with the Xperia. SE has now tied up with Taiwan-based Mobinnova for manufacturing its future Windows Mobile devices. While no official reason is out, we believe it would be cheaper then HTC and HTC being present under its own brand name in the market might have been hurting SE!
