The console wars are all set to enter a new phase. Consider the evidence: Microsoft has revealed the Xbox 360 Elite and is readying a much more radical device for late 2010, complete with the player-as-a-controller Project Natal. Sony has come out with a slimmer PS3 and is looking to come out with UMD-less PSP Go in a month or two, even while working on bringing out a motion-sensing edition of the PS3 a bit later (yep, with the PS3 wand).
There is a name missing out there, right? Well, yes, it is that of the company that is actually been leading both Microsoft and Sony by the nose in the console business over the last year and a half – Nintendo. The Wii made fair mincemeat of the PS3 and Xbox 360, while the Nintendo DS has pretty much buried the Sony PSP.
But will that state of affairs continue? Both Sony and Microsoft are working hard to neutralise the Wii’s motion-sensing edge and the (more…)

Zune HD vs iPod touch
When Microsoft announced that its Zune HD multimedia player could play 3D games and released details of some of the titles that would be available on it in the coming days, the big company from Redmond added a new chapter to the battle for portable gaming. Although this has so far been a largely Sony vs Nintendo affair, with special appearances from other players, there are now indications that two of tech’s oldest rivals are getting ready to make portable gaming the arena for their next slugfest. Aye, after going at each other on computers, phones and media players, those two old buddies, Apple and Microsoft are likely to be slugging it out on gaming next.
There will be those who will snigger at such a notion, but given the way in which the iPod touch has emerged as a viable gaming device in its own right (heck, I think it offers much more bang for your gaming buck than the DS or the PSP), it would be foolish to write off the Zune’s prospects in this regard. Mind you, the force right now does seem to be with the iPod – the App Store right now has thousands of games, many of which are free, while the Zune is just starting out in this department. But that is likely to change in the coming days – even the App Store started out small, remember?
We can feel the frowns in the Sony and Nintendo camps already.

Apple today announced a refresh to its iPods lineup, released iTunes 9 and killed all rumors for an Apple Tablet / Netbook and iPod touch with camera. The iPod nano got a video camera but the iPod touch didn’t get the microphone or camera. While this might well be a result of the technical snag rumors that claim that the iPod touch 3G was delayed due to some technical issues, I strongly feel that the camera iPod touch wouldn’t come so early as Apple would prefer to have a good difference between an iPod and the iPhone!
Here are the highlights of the event, detailed coverage coming soon. Also watch @ iPhoneHelp
- iTouch OS 3.1 released
- iPod touch becomes 50% faster, better games, 64GB version, no camera!
- No HD, but better gaming support for iTouch with OpenGL|ES 2.0
- iPod classic gets a bump to 160GB
- iPod nano 5G gets a camera, voice recorder and FM
- New iPod Shuffle in new colours
- App Store gets genius support. Suggests apps based on your liking
- 1.8bln apps sold, 75k apps live on AppStore
- 30 million iPhones sold till date, 20 million iPod Touch
- iTunes 9 released
Steve Jobs presented the keynote, he looked healthy and confirmed his liver transplant 5 months ago. Its like Superman returns for us !

It’s a very strange feeling for me to say now that within days hours we’ll be able to (in all probability) drool over the new iPods from Apple, and that too with cameras! We have had continuous rumors and live pictures (leaked) over the past few weeks of the upcoming iPod nano and iPod touch sporting a camera. While I had early on discarded these rumors, the persistence of the rumors has now forced me to reconsider the camera iPods (or maybe I have been right all along and the camera iPods will do a no-show tomorrow).
Pictures of leaked accessories from unheard manufacturers in China and around Asia have been common for unreleased Apple products. We have also seen these turn out to be nothing more than publicity stunts for these manufacturing cos (remember the iPhone Nano rumors?). The same can be applied to the iPod nano and iPod touch. The rumors started with silicon / plastic cases sporting a camera field and microphone slot, and we at OnlyGizmos took every bit of the gossip with several pinches of salt. The early rumors were followed by more leaked cases (live pictures and digital ones) and (more…)

The annual iPod event, or the Apple music event, has now been confirmed for September 9, 2009. The official announcement came from Apple through press invitations. The event is to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California.
The invitation includes the classy Rolling Stone lyrics “It’s only rock and roll, but we like it”. It also features the the company’s now-familiar iPod shadow graphic.
Now what can you really expect from this year’s music event? Some of the host of rumours kicked around over the past few months could well be realized.
The first rumour includes the new iPods. Apple is expected to release the next generation of the iPod nano and the rumored iPod touch with camera. The iPod classic is also expected to be upgraded to have point-and-shoot capabilities.
The second rumour applies to the upgrade of iTunes to (more…)

The PED3-Tripod And PED3-Tripod-Form are the devices that can be used to connect your iPod to a Tripod or other stabilizing devices. While a tripod is used to hold cameras for video shooting, i wonder how many people would want a Tripod stand for their iPhone (even if its the improved camera iPhone 3G S).
Anyways, the PED3-Tripod holds your naked iPhone while the PED3-Tripod-Form holds the iPhone in a protective cover. The two would cost $28 and $32 and would start shipping by the end of this month.
