brick-from-best-buy

We thought that the worst that can happen to you in case of online shopping is receiving the product wrapped in toilet paper and cigarette box, but here is a case where the buyer actually received a BRICK from Best Buy instead of a Apple Macbook PRO. Hope he is able to sort the mess soon :P

Apple preparing MacBook Air 15″ ?

January 19th, 2009

air-15

Apple rumors are back, and this time its the famous MacBook AIR that is seeing an upgrade with a 15″ version. The chinese blog Apple.pro claims that the second half of 2009 would see this 15″ MBA.

The 15″ AIR is expected to use Intel’s low voltage Core 2 Processors. The recently released unibody 15″ from Apple is already (one of ) the thinnest and lightweight 15″ notebook in the market. This makes us feel that a MacBook Air might not be Apple’s priority. But again by 2nd half 2009 the unibody would be a year old.

Apple’s new MacBook and Cinema Display comes to India

October 24th, 2008

The New MacBook Pro

The recently announced Macbook and Macbook Pro updates have made its way to India within days of its US launch. Also coming this November is the Apple 24″ Cinema Display!

The new Macbook and Macbook Pro are way ahead of their time and competition. Notable enhancements include an aluminium unibody, slimmer / sleeker and lighter design, enlarged glass trackpad with new touch features, and LED-backlit display.

Aluminum Precision unibody enclosure: The most stunning factor of the new MacBook’s is the body design. To eliminate unwanted parts and complexities the base of the new MB and MBP are carved out from a single block of aluminum (Video and more here). Thus resulting in thinner, more durable and incredibly beautiful designs.

Macbook AIR vs Lenovo X300 (Funny Video)

April 30th, 2008

Lenovo X300 sure has more options than the MacBook AIR, and here they tell you exactly why the MacBook AIR isn’t really worth those $$$! Lenovo always had a take on the AIR making it the prime competitor for Apple. Check out the print Ad from Lenovo some time back – “every thing else is just Hot Air“.

MacBook AIR reviewed with Windows!

March 22nd, 2008

Yes thats something many of us cheer. The looks and style of a MacBook combined with Windows. And what better than the latest MacBook Air to give Windows Vista a try! Xbit Labs decided to evaluate the MBA solely as a Windows machine, wiping the drive clean of Leopard and installing Vista Ultimate.

Although it still isn’t the best solution for all some might still like the Hot Air with Windows!

Xibit’s Conclusion:

“Summing up, we have to admit that MacBook Air is not the best choice for an ultra-portable Wintel solution. Luckily, Apple’s system is not the only one in this market. We see quite a few new solutions with similar weight and dimensions designed for Windows Vista, like the recently announced ThinkPad X300. So, if you are looking for an airy design and Microsoft OS, then this might be the best way to go.”

Apple Macbook Air selling like hotcakes!

March 4th, 2008

Apple Macbook Air
There is something certainly special in the Air… Apple Macbook Air is no iPod shuffle, costing over 1800$ (Rs 91000 in India) it is one of the most expensive notebook computers in the market today. Still reports suggest that the Macbook Air still sells like hotcakes. We have seen idiot’s (oops, sorry) back here in India order it over eBay US paying over 18% in duties ++ FedEx shipping! Even in the US there is a wait of upto a week on MBA’s ordered from the Apple Store online.

Reason? Apple knows how to innovate and then hype (Read iPhone). However out sources tell us that the wholesalers in US are offering a rate cut on the MBA since last week.

MacBook Air competitor from Lenovo

February 13th, 2008

MacBook AIR has its first competitor in a PC Notebook from Lenovo, the ThinkPad X300. Unlike the AIR, X300 has loads of inbuilt ports (3x USB, 1x Wired Ethernet), a DVD drive, and a removal battery. With a weight of 3.12 pounds (1.41 Kgs) its not the lightest of the portable notebooks, nor does it sport that amazing look and feel of the MacBook AIR. However the ThinkPad X300 is probably the closest competitor to the AIR in a PC form which can run Windows.

X300 comes with a 64GB SSD drive making it significantly ($1000) more expensive than the MacBook AIR. However It can also be ordered with a built-in cellphone modem and even GPS. More details as it comes!

Flawed Macbook LCD? Apple faces Lawsuit!

May 23rd, 2007

Apple Inc has been slapped with a lawsuit in California for making false claims about MacBook and MacBook Pro displays.

Filed on 3 May in a California, US, state court, the lawsuit charges Apple with falsely advertising MacBook and MacBook Pro displays as able to produce “millions” of colors.

“The reality is … the displays are only capable of displaying the illusion of millions of colors through the use of a software technique referred to as ‘dithering’,” the suit claims.
The company is also charged with violating the Unfair Competition Law and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act with its failure to address and rectify the situation. The two Californians, Fred Greaves and Dave Gatley who filed the suit want to stop Apple and the other defendants from continuing to represent the computers as being capable of displaying millions of colors.

They also seek damages representing the difference between the price paid for the computers and their actual worth, the loss of professional productivity, other forms of damages and costs.
