November 4th, 2008

Not thats weird, Apparently motorola doesn’t want its Ultra-Luxurious handset Aura to retail on eBay! Reports suggest that Mototorla might ask Aura buyers to sign a contract that the handset will never appear on eBay. So much to maintain exclusivity? Well I would say, concentrate your efforts on better products instead!

Motorola’s saviour ‘Alexander’ - Spy Shots

August 5th, 2008

Motorola Alexander
We read about Motorola’s last hope to survive in the mobile market. And here we have some leaked shots of the Motorola Alexander. It immediately reminds me of the O2 XDA IIs, but this one appears a little short. The rumored specs mentions a 5 or 8 MP camera, a NVIDIA chip (for 3D graphics) and Windows Mobile 6.1! Expected to be release by Year end, this one better be good (though looks ugly).

Motorola might sell-off cheaply

July 13th, 2008

The buzz about Motorola planning to sell of its cellphone division is strong again. And as it seems the revival plan for motorola isn’t working. I have been a Motorola fan. Frankly they were good! It is the only company who provides good after sales service in India, All others like SE and Nokia has disappointed us. But only if they could provide equally good products consistently.

According to an estimate Motorola’s cellphone division which was valued at $8bln untill last year, is now considered worth only $500 million. Thats a huge amount of value to lose in a year. And if that was not enough, some analysts believe that Motorola might have to pay something to get rid of the troubled handset division.

A lot of blame has been publicly  put on the inefficient management at Motorola. The co has struggled to keep up the good work after the superhit MotoRazr in 2004. Frankly the MotoRazr 2 (V8) should have released a year earlier. Motorola has also failed to advance its Linux based A-series too well. The A780 and A1200 didn’t do any magic, and upgrades were slow to come out. Even the 5MP ZN5 which is recently announced is late vs the competition, and only the existing supply contracts that Motorola has is supporting it!

With news that Videocon might be interested in buying out Moto … Hope we can someday relive the good experiences we has with Brand Moto all these years. RIP

June 24th, 2008

Motorola A1600 and MotoMing A1800

Its all Motorola around us for the day. Firstly the MotoZINE series: ZN5 along with the Motorola Alexander 8megapixel rumor and now  the release of the much hyped and by rumor (leaks) A1800 and A1600 (upgrade’s to the MotoMING A1200; launched in china). While both handsets are powered by Linux (yes the popular A series platform) and offer GPS, both off them disappoint with no WiFi or 3G. No matter what, Nothing matches the charm of the good old Motorola A760. More details downstairs:

Motorola A1600 Specs

  • Powered by Linux OS
  • Quad-band GSM with EDGE (Lacks 3G)
  • 3 MP Camera with continuous autofocus

Motorola A1800 Specs

A1800 is similar to A1600 in specs. But offers Dual Sim operations (GSM+CDMA) but leaves out EDGE.

Pictures Coming Soon @Gallery

And here we also have the pricing estimates. According the to Motorola Official rates in China the A1600 sells for INR Rs 22900 ($550) approx  and the A1800 sells for INR Rs 34000 ($820) approx

Motorola Working on a 8MP saviour

June 24th, 2008

Rumors mills are churning out a fresh twist to the Motorola sale story. Apparently Motorola is working on a new UIQ powered handset powered with a 8MP camera. Other features include GPS and a built in built-in NVIDIA chip for 3D graphics and Video. According to the reports they might launch the same sometime in 4Q 2008. The device is codenamed ‘Alexander’ and might offer a TouchScreen aswell. In case this one doesn’t manage to revive the troubled Motorola handset unit, they might well sell off the company! Although it doesn’t sound very logical to bet the whole company on a single release, all we can say it Best of Luck (Get well soon).

Motorola Kodak branded 5MP Phone now official: MotoZINE ZN5

June 23rd, 2008

Motorola ZN5 - MotoZINE
The Kodak powered 5 megapixel Motorola mobile ZN5 is now official. Although the video and pictures leaked out long ago now we have the official confirmation and specs. MOTOZINE ZN5 is the first device to carry the MOTOZINE franchise name, Motorola’s new label for its multimedia-optimized devices.
Quick Specs

  • 5MP Camera (Partnered with Kodak)
  • Autofocus and Xenon Flash
  • Image Stitching
  • WiFi, Bluetooth
  • 350MB Internal storage (Expandable MicroSD upto 4GB)
  • GSM - EDGE
  • ModeShift Technology

With the ZN5 pictures can be uploaded via Gallery Link in one simple click and instantly shared to the KODAK Gallery (www.kodakgallery.com)1 to be viewed, stored and shared with friends and family. The new Keypad that we saw with ROKR E8 is again repeated with the ZN5. Named ModeShift this new technique changes the keypad as per the phone mode (so a different keypad for music and phone).

“Today’s creative consumers not only want to be the photographer, but also the retoucher, the exhibitor and the critic,” said Jeremy Dale, corporate vice president, mobile devices marketing, Motorola, Inc. “The MOTOZINE ZN5 lets them be all the things they want to be.”

The ZN5 could have competed better with the N95 and the N95-8GB had there been more internal memory. For the moment MotoFans have to settle for the external MicroSd.

Motorola ROKR E8 now launched!

June 18th, 2008

Moto Rokr E8
Motorola has released its much awaited sequel to the ROKR series. Meet the E8 (yes the one we saw way back in Sepy 07)! With no physical keys the E8 is a impressive (and somewhat expensive) music phone powered by Linux OS. E8 features 2GB of internal storage space along with a microSD slot (so add upto another 4GB). So the features remain the same as what we heard before. As for the pricing Tech2 reports the price around Rs 15000, but we expect it to retail around Rs 11000 - 12000.
E8 supports the following audio formats - MIDI, MP3, AAC, AAC+, Enhanced AAC+, WMA, WAV, AMR-NB and Real Audio (RA) v10 and offeres other standard features you expect out of a music phone (AD2P etc etc). A 3MP+ camera would have been good, but Rokr fans will have to be content with a plain 2MP camera (with a 8x Digital Zoom, if you really cared for it).
