The much awaited (atleast for me) Nokia E63 (scaled down version of E71) is now available in India. Retailing for less than Rs 15000 this seems to be a good buy. But compared to the expectations of USD 250, I feel the pricing is still a little steep. Courtesy Fine Connections, we managed to have a quick look at the handset and It is pretty impressive. Though a little bigger than the E71, it would be good upgrade from an E61i.
Also confirmed that the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic shall hit the Indian stores by this weekend. The pricing is Approx Rs 19400 which is really impressive. The first batch of Nokia’s in 2009 is looking good. The 5800 faces competition from LG Cookie which is aggressively priced @ Rs 13000 and highly promoted in India. The LG Cookie went on sale last week.

E63 is very similar to the Nokia E71 with not much difference between them. Both handsets run on Symbian OS 9.2 S60 version 3.2, and are almost identical in shape/design. However the E63 would come significantly cheaper to the E71. Somehow this gives me a feeling that its price competition that Nokia wants to bring in. With the domiance of Blackberries in QWERTY’s and also the rising popularity of the iPhone and Windows Mobiles, Nokia needs to enter this segment with multiple option. Nokia has always relied on the numbers game. It rests on its worldwide depth to maintain its dominance in the cellphone industry. In developing nations like India, it has over a dozen models priced below Rs 8000. Hitting the nail right on the head!

The much rumored and leaked plastic body E71 aka Nokia E63 is now official. E63 offers 3G but no GPS or HSDPA. Available in two colors ruby red and ultramarine blue; I might trade in my E61i for this one!
Whilst appealing to a new group of consumers with a design that feels great in the hand and has two new colors, the Nokia E63 is still very much a member of the Eseries family. Petersen continues, “People use Eseries to access their corporate mail, review their calendar and work in their business network, so the Nokia E63 still includes Wi-Fi connectivity, easy access to Mail for Exchange and dedicated key access to contacts, calendar and email.”
The Nokia E63 also includes Files on Ovi, a service where people can get remote access to their PC files even when their computer is offline. Anyone buying the handset will have access to 1GB of online file storage for free.
