Juice-up 80 devices together with 80 Port USB Hub

January 31st, 2010

Are you the one who is  always cursing your PC for having only two to four USB ports.  Japanese company Thanko have introduced the 80 Port USB Hub which can charge 80 devices simultaneously. Which means, an extra 77 ports when you have already plugged-in your cellphone, camera and iPod (provided you have their USB charging cable). Sad though is the fact that you can only charge your devices and not sync them with the comp using this gadget.

The 80 Port USB Hub is available for $165 in Japan only. No news on availability in other parts of the world. Wonder if this weird gadget will ever make it to the other parts of the world.

Western Digital My Book (USB 3.0) goes on sale

January 18th, 2010

Western Digital has gone on sale with the My Book 3.0 external drive that houses the next-gen USB 3.0 support. Announced earlier this month at CES 2010, WD MyBook 3.0 is one of the first USB 3 storage devices (the other one we heard was the Segate Blackarmour). USB 3.0 gives you 10x more speed than the current USB 2.0, however the sad part is that we are yet to see compatible systems hit our desks. For the moment you would only be able to use this HDD in USB 2.0 mode on your current system (thankfully USB 3 is backward compatible) or install a USB 3.0 compatibility card.

The 1TB MyBook 3.0 goes on sale in India at Rs 9990 (Intl price $179) or Rs 11990 with a USB 3.0 adapter card (Intl. price $199). The 2TB version would hit the markets by month end.

Chill out with the portable HandyCooler

September 5th, 2009

handycooler

iTWorks has come up with a convenient product to keep yourself cool during those horrid summer days. HandyCooler is a compact air conditioner that can be recharged with different options, which include your USB port and AA batteries. The launch timing might be wrong given Fall months being just around the corner, but the product is still cool :)

The HandyCooler works on the popular evaporative cooling technology, the same used in modern air conditioners. This “handy” little device works with a soaked sponge that the user has to place inside the HandyCooler. The sponge then cools the hot air while the air passes through sponge.

The HandyCooler is available for US$39.99.

Beer Filled USB Drive

August 15th, 2009

Beer Drive

Nort sure on how the managed this, but its kewl! Not for sale commercially, this is a custom made flash drive for corporate gifting. A product of CNK Promotions, this unique pendrive is certainly something I would like to pocket.

With flash drives getting as common as a pencil, it certainly takes a crazy beerhead to get something unique. Cheers

LightBulb shaped USB Flash Drive

August 3rd, 2009

usb bulb

Another unususally designed USB drive, this one as a Light Bulb. While this looks cool and Geeky, I really doubt if this will fit into a Laptop USB port without elevating the latptop from the surface (the bulb’s round head is thicker than usual laptops). However nice geek stuff; A 2GB LightBulb drive will cost you $19, 4GB will cost $22 and 8GB will come home for $32. And hey, this doubles up as a keyholder aswell.

The wall socket look alike USB hub might be a bit confusing sometimes. But we know you are smart enough to learn where do the plugs go and where does your USB (at Least a few electric shocks would teach you! :P ).

Anyways, this ‘wall-socket’ USB hub has a magnetic back so you can just stick it to your table side for an easy access to plug in your USBs. The USB hub also has the provisions to screw it to the wall like a regular wall-socket. The USB ports are spaced quite comfortably to enable pluggin of your designer bulky flash drives, cables and other usb accessories together.

slim_data

I just hate losing those flash drives and buying a new one every month. I always wished to have a flash drive that could be carried in the wallet but still big enough not to be misplaced easily. Now here is something that would answer these concerns.

The ‘credit-card-thin’ wallet flash drive has been built by company named TopTech Products. This flash drive can be easily carried in your wallet as a normal plastic card. The dimensions are 3.4-inches x 2.1-inches x 0.11-inches.

The flash drive can store upto 4Gb of data and has support for USB 2.0 on Windows, Linux and Mac platforms. Availabe in five colours – clear, gray, orange, red and blue. At $24.99 I feel its good enough.

Lacie gets innovative with ‘its a key’ and ‘i am a key’ USB Drives

March 15th, 2009

An unusual name for a pen drive – iamakey and itsakey. But the design is equally unusually. At first I thought that its a USB key for cars that would also probably work with ATM’s and has a biometric fingerprint scanner inbuilt … :D

key-pen

But as it turns out its just a Key shaped USB Flash drive concept from Lacie. So you can attach this to your Keychain (along with your real keys I guess) and ensure that when you lose either of them (USB or Key) – your loss is double. So the fear of this double loss might probably make you a little more attentive and would subconsciously motivate you to take better care… :P

However I would rather use this to fool people who want to borrow my Pendrives. I would tell them this one goes into my bike! (Apparently I have lost over 8 pendrives with people borrowing them and not returning it)

Via UberReview

And yeah, If you really wanted to know these would cost you between $15-28 (4GB and 8GB variants in different designs. Check here)
