Saygus unveiled its Android-powered VPhone at CES yesterday. And it comes with a first-of-its-kind feature for smart phones: Hassle-free two-way videos even on EDGE. Saygus calls it a PCDA (Personal Communications Data Assistant).
Video conferencing is supported by many handsets, but it eats up a lot of bandwidth. But Saygus states that the phone can run at 18 to 22 FPS on EDGE and upto 30 FPS on 3G. It also claims that on VPhone, we can have up to 10,000 minutes of video conferencing on 5GB bandwidth.

Samsung has announced its latest LCD that combines all the components required for a HD video confrencing. The 24″ LCD monitor called VC240 can be used as a computer monitor too.
The LCD uses the V2oIP (Video and Voice over Internet Protocols) communication system and is compatble to all other VoIP systems and SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) controls. The LCD screen has a 5Mp camera mounted on top of it with a noice cancelling microphone. H.264 codec is used for compressing the video for confrencing. The Scopia VC240 delivers 720p 30fps live video up to 2Mbps. The monitor gives 1920×1080p full HD resolution with 1000:1 contrast ratio and 170/160 degree viewing angle.
At $1,999 the LCD is quite costly. For those who can justify this investment as a cost cutting measure to expencive employee trips, the LCD would be availabe this fall.

Out of the many features missing from the iPhone (incidentally it still is a big big success) one much needed feature is the option of video recording and for 3G users videoconferencing. But patents filed by Apple seem to point that these features shall be seen on the iPhone at some point in the future for sure. And we are sure that the iPhone 2,1 aka iPhone 3rd Gen would have all that we dream of.
