MSI introduces Android powered VoIP phone [Video]

Everyone knew that Android would not be limited to powering cellphones. Android powered netbooks and media players were anticipated even before the google OS picked up momentun. But, recently we have seen the OS powering a few not-s0-expected devices. First we saw the Android powered landline phone and now we have the Android powered VoIP phone on display at MSI’s booth at CeBIT.

The device, MS-9A31 is a landline-cum-VoIP hybrid featuring a large touchscreen.  The phone supports DECT (Digital Enhanced Cordless Telecommunication), video conferencing and instant messaging. Connectivity options include two LAN ports and a USB port. It also has a card reader for multimedia file transfer. There is no news on pricing or availability of the phone. Video chat on your Skype Mobile by Fring

Fring has been one of the most regularly updated mobile VOIP app. And its compatibility list is comprehensive with everything from Symbian to Android covered. Adding another feather to its cap, Fring today announced that they have launched video chat on Skype for Symbian users. This is certainly amazing news, given the fact that Fring is FREE.

Currently the video calling works on the following Nokia models (Nokia touch such as X6, N97 mini,N97, 5800), N95, N95 8G & N82. Other popular platforms would be added soon as per the official post. Video demo below (more…)

Fring to display Ads; will remain free

Fring is an amazing free utility, which was recently launched for the iPhone aswell. But how do they make money? the development cost is huge. So to help provide Fring Free of Cost; it shall start displaying Ads. Currently the Ads are under testing, and is being experimented on a few randomly selected Fring users.

For a common person who feels scared, remember even GOOGLE shows ADS to keep their search engine free!! :D

Skype now on Mobile Phones

Skype is the free internet call program which is used by million of people for communication recently launched its mobile version. The mobile version is in beta. All Java enabled mobile can use this application. We have seen mobile messengers like Fring being extremely popular. But Skype has a ready made user base of business users who rely on its services for day to day use.

The application is free to download and use. All you need is a skype account, which can be created easily and for free. The mobile version has all the features which a computer version has such as instant messaging, making & receiving calls, and group chat.

Skype mobile version is currently supporting around 50 model from Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, and Samsung. Also the beta version is limited to 7 countries at the moment. The countries are Brazil, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Poland, Sweden, and the U.K.

The software can be downloaded from skype site itself and there are 2 modes of installing the application. One is downloading the software directly to the mobile & the second option is download the software to a computer and then install onto the mobile.

Skype is more economical if used for international calls. PC-PC calls are always free of cost. Only PC to Phone is chargeable.

Sony Ericsson Launches P1i in India

Sony Ericsson has unveiled its newest pocket-sized smart phone, the P1i.
Based on Symbian OS (v9.1), the P1i has a 2.6-inch touch screen and a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera. P1i is the successor to the SE P990i which didn’t live upto the expectations of its fans.

However this totally business class phone is set to show up the other business phone out there. It’s a 3G enabled with Wi-Fi, support for Blackberry connect, Pre-loaded Exchange ActiveSync with hi-speed UMTS. It’s also equipped with a 3.2 megapixel auto-focus camera.
Among its many other features it also supports GPS and VOIP. It has a QWERTY keypad and supports handwriting recognition. The P1i is equipped with a large 2.6 inch touch screen with a Transflective Display.

It also has support for Memory Stick Micro (M2) besides having an internal phone memory of 160MB.
