Vodafone to launch its own App Store
May 12th, 2009 by Annkur
Apple App Store has inspired yet another, Vodafone is all set to launch a universal app market for smartphones. Vodafone joins a long list of AppStore followers viz. Blackberry, Acer, Windows Mobile, Orange, Samsung, Android, Nokia etc.
Vodafone would offer apps for all its devices (from different manufacturers) via a single platform and the customers would be charged for the same in their bill. Vodafone has a huge customer base to sell these apps, but what makes Appstore a real success is the seamless integration of the App Store along with quality applications that leverage the iPhone capabilities to the fullest.
Manufacturers and telecom operators have woken up to a all new method of making money from mobile devices. While Apple is celebrating 1 billion app downloads on its App Store, others are still preparing their launch. With the smartphone boom in full swing, it would be interesting to see how these platforms fare over the next few years. In case of carriers joining manufacturers with their own appstore, the consumer would be left with multiple options and sources to buy an app from. Consumer experience and usability would play a large role in the success of any of these upcoming app sales platforms.
