Walmart slashes iPhone price to $97, Apple to discontinue iPhone 3G?

Another major confirmation for the upcoming iPhone 4G or perhaps another “magical and revolutionary” device is that the older ones are getting cheaper and cheaper. Wallmart, the largest retail chain has just lowered the price of the fastest iPhone till now, the 3GS to $97. Now that’s like some $100 lowdown. It obviously means they are planning to clear off the old stock to make way for the new. Another thing we just heard is that the iPhone 3G will soon be discontinued. The older version, 8GB iPhone 3G now has been plucked away from production and orders also aren’t being processed for it.

Another rumor flowing out is that both the older versions, iPhone 3G and 3GS might be kicked off the shelves together for entry of the new smartphone on June 7 (Apple’s WWDC and iPhone 4G’s expected announcement date). The $97 tag for 3GS would do well to clear the old stock. The pricing for the new iPhone is tricky to figure out, but what we see is quite a fact that Apple would not increase the rates but is more likely to give a drop in the prices for the new product.

iPhone 4G is nothing but a heavy blow and answer to the existing devices and to make the other smartphones feel the heat of having Apple as a competitor. Interesting ha?

Btw: It’s an interesting situation for AT&T buyers. We see some of them wanting to cancel their AT&T Store order and go for Walmart!  See here
