Whatever happened to Samsung AMOLED

Yesterday we started to hear about the new Bada OS handset Wave II from Samsung and guess what? This one has almost the same specs as the original Wave (S8500) but no AMOLED display.

It was hard to digest a recent rumor that claimed that Apple is gobbling up all of Samsung’s AMOLED supply for 2011 specially after Samsung boldly announced a few months back that the Galaxy S and Wave mark their serious entry into the smartphone space. Now add to this equation the twist that Apple claimed that its Retina technology is better than Samsungs AMOLED we have a classic situation with many rumors colliding with each other. So here are a few possible scenarios:1. Apple actually ate all AMOLED and iPhone 5 / iPad 2 would feature it. Poor Samsung

2. Samsung wanted to fit a bigger screen on Wave II and AMOLED was expensive

3. There is a shortage of AMOLED as it is, remember HTC had to switch to LCD aswell?

While none of these may be true, if you are really a rumor fan there is enough to spread through the grapevines 🙂
