Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is Now Receiving MIUI 9.2 Update

In November 2017, Xiaomi had officially announced the MIUI 9 Global ROM based on Android 7.0 Nougat OS. The Chinese manufacturer has recently confirmed that it will be releasing the MIUI 9 for 40 of its devices. The list includes even older smartphones like Mi 3, Mi 2S and 2A that were launched in 2013. Starting from today, the company has begun the roll out of MIUI 9.2 update for Redmi Note 3 smartphone from 2016.

The MIUI 9.2 update for Redmi Note 3 is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and not on Nougat that is being made available to newer Xiaomi phones including the Redmi Note 4. Xiaomi has reportedly skipped the MIUI 9 update to release 9.2.40 version for Redmi Note 3. The size of the firmware update is 290 MB and apart from new features and UI improvements, it also brings Android security patch for January and patch-fix for KRACK WPA 2 security vulnerability.

On the official forum site, the company has confirmed that it is a stable build. However, it is being made available only to select users to receive feedback before pushing it out  to wider audience. All the users of Redmi Note 3 are expected to receive MIUI 9.2 update by the end of this week.

Apart from an enhanced UI, the MIUI 9.2 update for Redmi Note 3 will include new apps for gallery, calendar, Mi Video, Mi Explorer, Mi Drop and more. The MIUI 9.2 update is expected to improve the multitasking experience and battery performance of the device. However, since it is not based on Android Nougat, it won’t be receiving features like Multi-Window, Quick Replies, split screen and so on. There is a possibility that the company may make it available through a future update.

The Redmi Note 3 is the predecessor of the highly popular Redmi Note 4 smartphone. It features a 5.5-inch display that supports full HD resolution. The Snapdragon 650 chipset powers the phablet along with 3 GB of RAM. It has a selfie camera of 5-megapixel and a rear shooter of 16-megapixel. It is fueled by 4,050 mAh battery.
