After months of anticipation, Xiaomi has officially debuted the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphones. The Redmi Note 5 is essentially the same Redmi 5 Plus smartphone that was launched in December 2017 in China. The Redmi Note 5 Pro is the world’s first smartphone to feature Snapdragon 636 chipset. Also, it is the first Redmi phone to arrive with an 18:9 display, 6 GB of RAM, dual rear cameras and Sony IMX376 sensor for selfie camera.

The Redmi Note 5 includes a 5.99-inch display that supports FHD+ resolution and an aspect ratio of 18:9. It produces a maximum brightness of 450 nits and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. As far as the design of the phone is concerned, it comes wrapped in a metal unibody design. It can be  bought in colors like Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Lake Blue. With a thickness of 8.05mm, it’s the slimmest ever Xiaomi Redmi smartphone.

Xiaomi’s love for Snapdragon 625 continues with Redmi Note 5. It is the very same SoC that powers older phones like Redmi Note 4, Mi Max 2 and Mi A1. The 32 GB model includes 3 GB of RAM whereas the 64 GB variant contains 4 GB of RAM. For additional storage, users can add a microSD card to the hybrid dual-SIM slot of the phone.

To control the internal temperature of the device, Xiaomi has added two pyrolytic sheets that can effectively help in decreasing the temperature by 2-degree Celsius. The 4,000mAh battery of Redmi Note 5 is coupled with an optimized charger that can withstand voltage fluctuations of up to 380V. The massive battery supports 5V/2A charging.

The handset comes preloaded with Android 7.0 Nougat that is customized with MIUI 9. The back panel of the phone features a fingerprint reader. A 12-megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture also resides on the backside of the phone. Some of its features include 1.25μm pixel size, faster autofocus and PDAF. The 8-megapixel selfie snapper is equipped with a Selfie-LED flash. For shooting enriched selfie images, it comes with Beautify 3.0 feature. The connectivity features available on the Redmi Note 5 include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/, Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB and 3.5mm audio jack.

The 32 GB and 64 GB storage models of the Redmi Note 5 are respectively priced at Rs. 9,999 and Rs. 11,999. Since the Redmi Note 5 is packed with amazing features with affordable pricing, Xiaomi is advertising this smartphone as “India’s all-rounder”. Flipkart will be exclusively selling the Redmi Note 5 online. The handset will be also available through Mi.com and Mi Home stores from 12 PM on 22nd February. The Chinese manufacturer is providing the customers of Redmi Note 5 with a free ultra-slim protective case along with the phone.

The 5.99-inch FHD+ display present on the Redmi Note 5 Pro gives it a bezel-less appearance like the Note 5. The screen of the phone is safeguarded by a sheet of Corning Gorilla Glass. It comes with a full metallic chassis that sports a slim profile of 8.05mm. Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Lake Blue are the four color variants of the Redmi Note 5 Pro.

The Snapdragon 636 chipset is present under the hood of the phone. It comes in 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB LPDDR4X RAM + 64 GB storage models. As far as performance is concerned, Xiaomi said that the 6 GB RAM model has scored 109,692 on AnTuTu benchmarking platform. This makes it the fastest Redmi Note smartphone ever. It also powered by 4,000mAh battery that is enabled with 5V/2A charging.

The fingerprint sensor is placed on the rear panel of the phablet. It is pre-loaded with MIUI 9 based on Android 7.0 Nougat. The dual camera system available on the rear of the phone includes a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 sensor that has a pixel size of 1.25μm and a secondary 5-megapixel Samsung sensor for capturing depth information. The amazing dual camera setup coupled with AI driven deep learning algorithm allows the Redmi Note 5 Pro to shoot impressive portrait images with blurred backgrounds.

The Sony IMX376 20-megapixel sensor placed on the frontside of the Redmi Note 5 is accompanied by Beautify 4.0 for snapping AI optimized selfies by analyzing the skin tone of the subject. The selfie snapper is also capable at shooting good quality images in low-light environments. The advanced front-facing camera of the Redmi Note 5 Pro also doubles up as Face Unlock feature. The AI computer engine scans various points on the phone to identify the user and unlock it instantly. Xiaomi has promised to make the Face Unlock available on the phone by the end of next month.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro’s 4 GB and 6 GB RAM models respectively cost Rs. 13,999 and Rs. 17,999. Like the Note 5, it will also be exclusively available on Flipkart. Since the Note 5 Pro is packed with stunning camera features, it is being marketed as “India’s camera beast”. Xiaomi’s Mi.com and Mi Home stores will also be selling the smartphone starting from 12 PM on 22nd February. Buyers of the Redmi Note 5 Pro will be provided with a free ultra-slim protective case as well.
