Yahoo launched its Sketch-a-Search iPhone application and a generic Yahoo search application for the iPhone at the CTIA event. Sketch-a-Search application allows its user to search for restaurants by just doodling for the search region.
Sketch-a-Search application uses GPS to locate the user’s location and starts by default for the same location. Restaurant search can be filtered by cuisine, ambiance, and star rating. The application gives a bird’s eye view of the restaurants in the circled region. It also allows for directions and calls from the application itself.
The Sketch-a-Search application currently works for restaurants only and would be available only for US. Yahoo plans to expand the search category and bring it to more countries in the future.
The generic search application from Yahoo does mostly everything that the Yahoo web search does. The application also supports voice search like the Google’s mobile search app. The application also supports Yahoo Local search, embedded maps and search history. iPhone users can also shake their phone to clear search results. The application is available in 22 countries across the world.
Both the applications can be downloaded for free from the App Store.

what a great idea… not being close to an eye-phone… can you clarify if you can do multiple different sections (aka, create multiple separate areas, or can it only be one bounded contiguous area?)
sketch-a-search is really good..VERY INNOVATIVE..!! almost feels like Google did it…
@ringlerun it is meant to find you a good place to dine in..why would you need to move away from your place..i.e sarch in multple areas?
@navin i can easily imagine a scenario where one is at home and thinking of going to one of two or three different areas… in that case, you might want to “circle” two or three varied areas to see the results or say restaurants in those areas before deciding on which direction to head in…
