Review: Videocon V1675 (Update: nothing better than a Chinese knockoff)

e36-vs-v1675

Videocon IMO would need to brand itself harder to be a cellphone player. Nothing wrong with manufacturing phones, but the only problem is that no on expects you to pull out a Videocon from your pocket. That aside, the V1675 is a well priced blackberry clone (at least in design). Videocon has somehow managed to deliver a QWERTY, Dual SIM smartphone with an optical trackpad for Rs 5500. While you will find many local china pieces at a better price, mind you this one comes with a brand name like Vodafone with it. So is the V1675 really cool?

Well not really. Had Videocon thought a little about innovating and creating a real product instead of just copying Blackberry design, UI (icons etc) and attach to that a Nokia charging slot; I would have appreciated this product lot more. Yes the phone works with a Nokia charger and while you would say that its good for compatibility, its actually no better than a silly Chinese counterfeits who bundle in a Nokia charging pin (why not a MicroUSB that’s the industry standard?). Seems like the innovation and real product creation in mobile field are left to new entrants like Notion Ink only.

Coming back to the V1675

From Videocon the phone features Dual SIM, Physical QWERTY, Bluetooth AD2P, 2MP camera with a flash, front camera and upto 2GB expandable memory. The phone claims to be integrated with Yahoo, Facebook, MSN and Twitter but these aren’t really apps but optimized web interfaces (note: I couldn’t connect my GPRS in this, so no mobile internet tested). And the best part: This isn’t a 3G phone, so the front camera isn’t gonna do any video calling.

Apart from that the QWERTY isn’t great either. Better than the Samsung Corby TXT for sure, but when I compare it to my E63, it is nowhere in competition. The typing on the V1675 keyboard is slow and somewhat noisy. Perhaps this is due to the way the keys are cut out, see a comparison below:

keyboard

The built quality is good, but the plastic doesn’t feel A grade but expecting anything better at this price would be a crime. Camera or media aren’t anything particularly to speak about, its average. I didn’t even feel like putting the effort to upload a sample image from the phone to show ya 😛 . The optical trackball is my first experience here, and it takes a little while to get used to, that’s a nice attraction for this device.

In short, if you are looking for an expensive looking Dual SIM phone, your choice can well be the Videocon V1675. Remember: this ain’t  a smartphone!

UPDATE:

WHY THE HELL DID I TAKE ALL THE EFFORT TO REVIEW THIS THING?

This isn’t a Videocon trying to copy Blackberry design, its just another Chinese phone with Videocon label on it. Just brought to my notice by a friend this thing runs a OS that is the same as a E71 knockoff that he has. See the images below (the phone on the right is not a E71 but a fake Chinese model).

    Saw your comparison…
If you need more input or more phones to review then just mail me the process.

    Thanks

    • Hi Ankur,

I have purchased one vedocon handset and withinn 3 months its got hanged and then not getting up when I shown it to service center they said I will have to pay 70% of cost to replace motherbord of as its not covered under warrenty.

Let me know ur view as I am very upsate with this !!

  • I purchased Videocon 1675 the blackberry type of phone. Its just a Chinese phone with the brand name videocon. The trackpad is pathetic does not get controlled easily. One may feel because its new but then there is no consistency in the flow. When you move the finger over it you expect the cursor to move, sometimes it moves very fast and sometimes not at all. It takes a while to get to the icon you want to. Secondly keys are not good and makes it very difficult to type. I also have had problems while sending messages from the second SIM the other person does not get the messages at times. Overall very pathetic phone one might prefer to go for a chinese phone which would be cheaper. I am planning to get exchange it for some other phone.

  • Hi Annkur

    Thanks

  • hi annkur,

Thanks a lot for nice review, i was planning to get a dual sim fone,Since you dont get a symbian based fone or anything from BB, Nokia or HTC ,had shortlisted v1675 and QT66.
after reading your review will try out Spice QT66.The main problem is that all this low cost fones or so called knock offs arte they have a generic OS which messes the functionality, connectivity as well as software portability.Still dont feel like parting ways with nokia, will try QT…

  • Hi Ankur,
thanks for your nice review and comparo….just let me know about a BB type phone(I want a Cheap One with Dual Sim) ,which is able to run Live Streaming of CNBC TV 18 for Live Stock Update..plz help me….
    thank you…

  • Thanks for the better update. I was going with options like E63, Micromax Q5, V1675. In Pune they are costing like E63 with bluetooth handsfree is INR 9400; Q5 – INR 4300 & V1675 – INR 6000. I was bit in confusion which is right choice. After reading this, I decided to go with E63. But it is having hanging problem. But doesn’t matter with comparision with these. Is Q5 better?

  • Lemon IQ707 is a good qwerty , dual sim phone.. The only drawback of this phone is that the * key is in middle of first row of key pad and unlocking the phone in the dark is very difficult as one has to press “unlock” and ” * ” and let me tell you, finding * in the dark is just impossible………what was the designer of this phone thinking of ?????

  • hey guyz…could you please suggest any ‘knock offs’ which i can use for internet browsing, i am using N91 for this, however needs a secondary phone, thanks

  • What about fly B430DS, it’s also having qwerty dual sim and some other cool features too !!

i am looking to havea qwerty dual sim phone any suggestion ?

  • I purchased v-1675 and shocked to see that there is space for back camera written 2 mega pixel but camera is missing we can not expect such type of blunder mistake by a exteemed and reputed company. I contacted the dealer “next ” from where i purchased it his comments were “This is a manufacturing defact and vidiocon company is responcible for it. Now it will force me to go to the consumer court for Justice.

  • thanks for the review i was in a confusion to buy tis videocon v1675 i think its betr to go 4 micromax q5 .. need your advice which 1 to buy micromax r videocon

  • I was in confusion between Samsung Corby, BB Curve & V1675 now I feel that I should go with samsung bcoz its within budget and looks are same like BB, I dont want BB bcoz most of its functions we don’t use. If any using Corby B3210 let me know the reviews?

  • I purchased the phone and then saw these reviews!! Good for the price, picks up signal in weak areas.

The vibration mode is weak & useless( am disappointed), The user manual could have been more elaborate , simple things like changing ring tones etc are missing, Playing and navigating music is not easy.

  • using this phone for abt 15 days. it isn’t as bad as the reviewer says. ya the touchpad is too sensitive, but the use of side bottons minimizes the use of touchpad. talking abt other phone like micromax q5 ,its better anyone checks the video quality of Q5 before buying the phone. this phone is nice ,has a decent battery backup, good sound and nice looks. but you have to spent abt 10/- to buy a 3.5 mm convertor as the handsfree is really cheap ones and worthless. anyway i feel this phone is a good buy.

  • can someone tell me about the Micromax Q5 and Olive Wiz V-GC800 which is a 3 sim phone… majorly i want to know is i have a CDMA phone as well can i use the GSM and CDMA simultaneously with missing on any calls.. as in if i m using a GSM will i get a second call on CDMA and vice a verse.. please do leave a comment.. any help will be highly appreciated… thanks in advance.

  • so i have seen the above review of videocon and i have to admit that it is true this phone have many problems

first — as we can it a full copy of a blackberry set
but its keypad are slightly cut off which makes it tough type if you want to scramble to any icon left ,right, up, down it takes
    time

second — it dosent have a good camera both the pixel and digital ones when you take a pic with pixel or digital ones it is blurred not clear ,, it”s gprs is also slow it take much time to browsing ,,,
and pc suite also takes time to connect ..music player is quite good but it like a chinese phone i

it says that it cones with app like Yahoo, facebook, MSN and twitter but these aren’t really apps …..

if you want a qwerty phone in low then you can go with micromax q5 its really a good phone ….. and if you can wait for some time then there will be cool phone of nokia c3
i can say that micromax has done quite well job in q5
well its review is as below :

It’s quite a relief to see a QWERTY handset that seems to have its own ‘personality and doesn’t look like some random Blackberry. Micromax’s previous model, the Q3 was definitely not one of the devices I’d recommend for users looking for this particular style of handset. This, the Q5 or ‘ezpad’ as it’s been dubbed, was apparently designed to be true bliss for the avid social networker and here’s how it fared.

The handset’s prime focus is around the keypad and not the screen. Hence we’re once again witness to the slightly awkward Micromax LCD panel. Although this one is a less skewed than the Q3’s it’s nevertheless the handset’s biggest drawback. Thankfully the large QWERTY keypad is fantastic. The buttons are easy to use and well spaced and will take no more than a couple of attempts to get used to. Navigation is a breeze thanks to the Track Ball. To ensure that the Q5 is branded a social networking handset, Micromax has incorporated two dedicated shortcut buttons for Facebook and the MSN app. A standard mini USB and a 3.5m socket are conveniently located at the base of the handset.

The Q5 is not a good looking handset but it’s well constructed for ease of use. It also packs quite a bit of weight, which is a little unusual, but somehow that manages to balance the handset quite well. Micromax has also included a rubberized case for the handset as well as a comfortable handsfree kit amongst the accessories.

The UI is a non issue. The handset seems to be designed for speed and there’s no lag whatsoever. It’s the same Java OS though so features-wise it’s all the same. There’s only the cosmetic change to make it look different. Another plus point is that everything is very neatly categorized. The only issue is the weird LCD panel that makes it a bit difficult to stare into for prolonged periods

The music player is superb. Thanks to Yamaha’s contribution, the audio quality and decibel level is in plentiful. The Q5 comes with a Bass enhancement setting, EQ presets that include 3D surround modes as well as Reverb effects, both of which make no sense to have in a mobile handset but they’re there. Through the settings menu the sound quality can be further adjusted via an 8 band graphic EQ option. If the bundled handsfree doesn’t do it for you, I’d suggest investing in a good set of earphones for a better audio experience.

The FM radio that has a recording option as well has really good reception. In almost all areas including places where handsets in this range usually come up just average, the Q5 somehow managed to provide really good reception. The voice recorder is quite handy for memos but don’t keep the mic too far. A distance of about 2.5 feet will be sufficient for clear voice recordings. There’s also an image editor feature that allows you to make a few adjustments to photos post capture.
Another very pleasant surprise was the fact that all of my test videos in 3GP and MPEG4 formats played without a hitch, including the higher resolution ones. If it weren’t for the display again, it would make for easy viewing of even full length movies

  • the above comment is not joke but its tested ihave q5 videocon 1675 but i dont know about nokia c3 because it”s not launched believe me its true …………….one can easily go with micromax q5

  • V1675 one ot the useless mobile, i have purchased the same mobile, this mobile are not even allow us to change the song, the c

  • Friends let me know Micromax Q5, which u are recommending,

  • hello there ………… i would prefer micromax because its good phone although in micromax q5 if you put a 2 gb micro sd in it then it start hanging or restarting buy itself … you can use micromax q3 its good if you want to use a micromax mobile however it has some lack of specifications in it but still it”s a good phone

  • may b its similar to the Chinese phone…Its really good…Im using it…
its nothing less than NOKIA E 71….

  • the thing is that i hardly ever use the touchpad as the phone works well with the use of volume bottons on side. also the resolution of this this phone is the best in its class. i am really satisfied with my mobile.

  • hi friends, please tell me to which phone i buy from rs 5000 to 6000.plz plz tell me any one thank u

  • DON’T BUY VIDEOCON V1675 – Better buy any china phone.
Last month i bought a V1675. Because i thought this mobile will be a good one than a Chinese mobile and also the videocon have a goodwill in Indian market. The same day when i purchased that i came to know that the China phones are much better than this V1675. We can’t talk more than 5 Mins. Heating, Keypad stuck, Bad audio, The hands free is worth Rs.20. Contacted Accel (Cochin Videocon service centre) for replacing the phone with new one because of keypad problem. This is the 6th day they are telling that they didn’t get any reply from videocon still i’m waiting for that reply. Yesterday i purchased a Samsung B5722 DUOS. Little expensive… I paid Rs.9800/- but it worths in all words.

  • I have purchase V1675 Last week from Gurgaon for Rs 5500. This is good looking set with nice navigation and software.
The only thing with which I am not satisfied is Sound quality and camera.
While viewing images/photos there is no zoom facility. If anybody has explored the feature pls help…….

  • Hi Videocon V1675
I read all the comments above

  • Guys,,

    but 1.camera
    2.zooming
    is not so good.otherwise it’s a excellent phone 2 purchase.just go 4 it.

  • Hi..,
I am using V1675 for the last 2 months, i suggest u not to go with this. The sound quality is really poor, camera says 2MP but not when comes to image quality. Hands-free prefered is very cheap not more than a 10/- Rs one which you find in the Market. I say better to go with any Chinese phone rather buying this one…!

  • hi guys..!
i m little confused after reading all the comments on v1675.,
i m going to buy but now i m have to think once again…….
plz suggest me what to do….
    do i go for v 1675 or not……

  • I am using V1675 mobile for the last one months. It is almost perfect mobile but I felt that their is two main problem in this mobile. One is its touch pad is not very user friendly and secondary opera mini, facebook, ect. third party software are not connected easily on the various network. Moreover this mobile did not contains shortcut key it is also a major drawback of this mobile

  • videocon ka v1675 phone dikhane me to shaandar hai lekin hai bhaut chutiya phone… maine krazy telecom jayanti market jaipur se ye mobile lya tha do baar to videocon service centre se DOA bnvaya uska baad b problem dukandaar itna acha tha ki 12-13 baar mera set bdaldya kyunki v1675 me nayi nayi problem aati thi.. kabhi screen light dim kabhi battery low kabhi touchpad kharab etccc..

jisne kharidha h ye phone vo 1 month k andar service centre pauchjayega.. main sabse mil chuka service centre me jink pass ye phone h sab rorahe h ye phone lekar!!!! dhanaywad

  • Actually i disagree with above reviews.. U cannot compare a 5.5k mobile with nokia E series… dats utter foolisness… One thing i can assure is the finish this fone gives… Handling and using d fone never makes u feel dat ur using a 5.5k fone… No other phone wid qwerty n dual sim ve such a finish n styling… and u definitly ve to compromise on some grounds since ur at a great advantage at the price tag… these are poor headset… lack of dual standby… long charging time.. There are no other issues as far as i kno… Im using it… But the battery chargin is annoying… It takes around 8 r 9 hrs to fully charge…

  • YYES WE KNOW THAT COMPARING A VIDEOCON 1675 WITH NOKIA E SERIES BUT IF YOU COMPARE WITH OTHER PHONES LIKE MAXX OR LAVA OR MICROMAX IT”S STILL WORST … YOU CAN BUY A CHINESE QWERTY PHONE MUCH CHEAPER THAN THIS PHONE AND STILL THEY ARE MUCH BETTER THAN THIS ONE ….NOW MICROMAX Q7 IS AVAILABLE YOU CAN GO WITH THAT ONE …….OR GO WITH NOKIA C3 [:D]

  • YA we can think that way tooo but just get these mobiles in hand and compare the feel.. I ve done that… got most f em from a trusted shop in front of me… just c d finish… U can feel the pathetic finish in all others in just a single glance… if ur not satisfied just try using d qwerty… ull get fed up vid most f em… Still now I feel that this s just worth d money u spend… my only worry s how long dis ll last… kay v ll wait n c.. after all its just 5.5k naaa… This is wat i feeel after using this thing and not just writing after seeing d specifications n a pic on d net… Of the many ones who has commended above how many has actually seen these mobiles really… I dont think many…

    UPDATE…
I ve used opera mini on 1675… i had to download fresh version since the one supplied s not working… But once installed its a great experience to browse with the trackpad n qwerty… I got a couple of cool java apps too from d net… Workin pretty well….

  • Ah sorry i forgot to add somethin… Im not a blind supporter or promoter of videocon… I just said that its more than enough for me… It has very bad video quality… poor headfones.. dirty UI.. dirtier OS etc.. but the thing s i neva use my mobile for music or videos… All i do s just calls that too i need dual sim… n some browsing.. emails and messaging… n of course i need neat looks…. nd i get all these without compromise…. but for sure never expect a branded smartphone from 1675…
    thanx

  • Please dont buy V1675!!!!!!
    in this mobile many problams
totly frauding compeny and features so plz belive me dont buy videocon1675!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey Nikhil….needing help from you.., I am planning to but a Videocon mobile V1705 model. Can you please help me on this.
After reading the above reviews, i am dreaded to buy it but can you please give me a fair view of how exactly it is.
I am seeking this mobile for a good deal of 3.2 mp camera with flash n music quality.
Presently i have a Nokia 5310 Xpress, n its fine with 2 mp, but i wud like to upgrade with dual sim; so wanted to go for this.
How is the camera quality, video recording n playback quality?
    What about battery backup?
Videocon has a 1 year warranty, right? then i am not sure if at all it gets bad,,,the warranty would anyways help right?

Please guide me on above questions please..I would b very thankful to you…
    Thanks in advance,
    –John…

  • i have this phn all regrets accepted but at this price wht else u want …people ..try to be reasonable enough …..if not then go buy blackberry for triple+ price

    • Hi, got a V1675 recently ,have configured to use GPRS to function as a modem on my PC,using BSNL Prepaid Sim ,enables Mini Opera to get Google etc. However not able to use Skype,YahooMsgr,MSN etc which return network problems, despite trying different APN settings. Can you advise how you got these to work, unless you are using providers other than BSNLShall appreciate details.

  • I want to buy a mobile phone but could not understand that of which company mobile I should purchased, I just want to spend around Rs. 4000/- on mobile with maximum facilities at least with 2 mp video camera too.

  • Hi,

I purchased videocon V1675 mobile phone, first of all red colored phone is only not available, other thing is headset output for audio player is very low, many of the images will not be supported, it shows internet is supported but out of 100% only 50 to 60% is only supported.
Instead of going with this phone we can go with Q5 where the features are more or less same.

  • this phone is a piece of shit.
no better than a Chinese 2000 rs phone. All features are very primitive. Call, camera, speaker, screen’s quality is wrost
i got this phone for 5450 rs on saturday, used it for 1 day.
Its of low standards that i sold this phone on next day itself at 4600 rs.

so if u like shit in ur hand and picket – go for this one.

Note : U will get best phones in Nokia and other companies at this price.
Donno why big company like videocon would sell such chinese phones with its label.

  • i hav purchases V1675..and my handsfree is spoilt..there r no videocon service centres in kolkata..can any1 plz suggest a way to get a handsfree for this phone..i dont mind a china 1 too..just let me know the name n the price,..

  • Hi Jose and John, please contact Videocon on Facebook, just type Videocon Mobiles in the search tab and Join the fanpage with V IS THE NEW ME slogan, u can get help regarding your problems out in the fanpage

  • hi i m using vediocon v 1675 for last two months. very exkpensive looking mobile. sound quality is veryn poor. charging time is very annoying. bt good battery back up.

  • You can expect Videocon mobile services are equal to Chinese mobile service. The service center at Secunderabad gives no proper response for any quieries. After purchase of V1675 model mobile phone the motherboard has to be replaced and after replacement the voice heard is very low, when complained center says this is what you can hear. Manager at Service Center, Secunderabad does not come front and give response. Now I had lost the handsfree for V1675 for one month Iam following up with Planet-M who are authorised sellers for Videocon mobiles are not able to provide the handsfree spare. This shows that videocon is also following the similar steps of chinese models, customers get frusturated and go for new mobiles because of lack of service.

  • I am using v1675 from last 2 months………….. its gud looking phne. its trackpad is superb no dought only if u will manege ur finger.pics capturing quality is gud but video is not so smooth…… the main problems i faced rgt now:: problem in downloading, softwares not available on websites,pc suit problem….

  • I purchased this (V 1675) mobile one month back and now its look like 2 years old third class mobile even after taking best care of it. I would like to suggest all of u … Dont buy this mobile and dont waste ur good money on this IIIrd Class and ghatiya mobile……..its better to go for a chines mobile ……

  • I bought this V1675 two weeks back, after going through the Videocon website but not satisfied at all. The music, camera, video are of poor quality… earlier I used Nokia Xpressmusic 5130 which I lost. and went for this but very disappointed…The company failed in this matter….

  • Ram lemme tell u something.. videocon is not a reliable mobile company like nokia. You cant never compare these two. Infact videocon has failed in all aspects except dual sim operability and neat looks…

  • Just bought this phone today… looks nice, but don’t know what will happen now…. will it work good or not ……

  • i using this phone frm last one month
this phone is very good but it can’t download softwares
and there is no software available on websites

  • himanshu you can get software and games from getjar.com

only thing is you need to search a lot for one suiting the set…..

I got a handful of useful softwares and some nice games too….

  • those who are saying this phone is superb….think they are using mobile for first time ion life…..this mobile is a shit…nothing else and no compariosn of this with nokia e63…..dnt go with these phone…..nokia e63 is a bit costly but its worth

  • Can u guys suggest me a CDMA+GSM dual sim phone. good phone feature, good sound, good battery life and specially when using both CDMA and GSM togather – good sound quality on CDMA. I am not looking for music, video , camera – they are all good to have for me.

  • i bot dis fone 7 months bak….. itz jst a crap peezzz…… a chineezzz hanset packd wit a videocon brand name…… dont waste ur mony on this….. plzzzz……. ur money mst be valued……..

    tak care 🙂

  • Hello All, I have gone through the reviews but franlkly speakng I have been using this set for a couple of days now and I am pretty much satisfied with this set. May be I am lucky in this case.

  • Took V1675 couple of days back. Yet to get acquainted with features fully. But cost me only Rs.4150. I wont repeat wont take chines models for obvious reasons. I would go for a comparable Indian one.
Dual sim with certain features at reasonable cost then what to complain.

  • Hi All,

Please Do not Purchase any Videocon Mobile Handsets !!!

I am already blaming myself for my decision to buy it 🙁 Its quality is same as china moble and Service Centers are very lazy and not well equipped takes Months to repair.

Within 3 months of buying it Its motherbord got damaged automatically and Service center guyes are saying its not covered under warranty and need to pay 70%price of phone to replace it.

So DONT buy it at all !!

  • Hi
    I am Aliasgar (From Bangalore)
I purchased Videocon 1675 the blackberry type of phone. Its just a Chinese phone with the brand name videocon. The trackpad is pathetic does not get controlled easily. One may feel because its new but then there is no consistency in the flow. I had purchased this (V 1675) mobile six month back and now its look like 2 years old third class mobile even after taking best care of it. You can expect Videocon mobile services are worst then Chinese mobile service. Please dont buy V1675!!!!!! in this mobile many problems totally frauding compeny and features so plz belive me dont buy videocon1675!!!!!!!!!!!!!! not even v 1675 but not any Videocon Products. It is No: 1 biggest Chor company in India with will better to say in the World.

  • Videocon services are very very bad. I have observed that they just try to escap from providing services.
