Last month, Google finally launched its mid-range Pixel 4a smartphone. It is a toned-down variant of the flagship Pixel 4 that was announced last October. The latest offering is also the successor to last year’s Pixel 3a. However, there is no XL variant this time.
The Pixel 4a is a mid-range smartphone and falls under the Rs 30k price bracket in India. It goes up against the recently launched OnePlus Nord and Apple’s iPhone SE 2020. We take a look at what the three phones compete against each other.
Pixel 4a vs iPhone SE 2020 vs OnePlus Nord: Display and Design
The Pixel 4a and iPhone SE 2020 are compact smartphones. The former features a 5.8-inch OLED display with FHD+ resolution. The iPhone SE 2020 offers a 4.7-inch Retina HD screen surrounded by the top and bottom bezels. On the other hand, the OnePlus Nord sports a larger AMOLED display measuring 6.58-inches with 90Hz refresh rate panel. Both the Pixel 4a and OnePlus Nord feature a punch-hole camera cutout at the top left corner.
Design-wise, the Pixel 4a sports a square-shaped camera module and a Mint Green colour power button. The iPhone SE 2020 retains iPhone 8-like design language with a glass back panel like the iPhone 11 series. The OnePlus Nord is equipped with an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a vertically stacked camera setup on the back.

Internally, the Pixel 4a is powered by a Snapdragon 730G processor paired with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. The iPhone SE 2020 houses Apple’s A13 Bionic chipset which also powers its flagship iPhone 11 series. RAM capacity of the device is not known but it is offered in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. The OnePlus Nord is equipped with a Snapdragon 765G processor with support for 5G connectivity. It packs up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage.
The Pixel 4a runs on a 3,140mAh battery unit with support for 18W fast charging while the OnePlus Nord is backed by a 4,115mAh battery with 30W fast charging tech. The battery capacity of iPhone SE 2020 is not known but it also supports 18W fast charging along with wireless charging.

Both the Pixel 4a and iPhone SE 2020 feature a 12MP rear camera with LED flash and an 8MP front-facing snappers. Both smartphones come with their respective set of camera modes and features. However, Google’s Pixel smartphones are popularly known for their impressive camera technology. The OnePlus Nord’s quad-camera setup consists of a 48MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide lens, 5MP macro unit and a 2MP depth shooter. The smartphone features a dual-camera on the front comprising of 32MP+8MP sensors.
Google Pixel 4a vs iPhone SE 2020 vs OnePlus Nord: Pricing
The Google Pixel 4a is priced at $349 (~Rs 26,200). However, it will be available in India only in October. The iPhone SE 2020 starts at Rs 42,500 for the base variant i.e. 64GB model. The OnePlus Nord’s base configuration i.e. 6GB+64GB starts at Rs 24,999 and goes up to Rs 29,999 for the top-end model.

The Pixel 4a and iPhone SE 2020 are an ideal choice for users who prefer a phone with compact form factor. The Google Pixel 4a offers a stock Android experience and other features with guaranteed upgrades for the next three years. If budget is not a problem, the iPhone SE 2020 offers more at its price tag. On the other hand, the OnePlus Nord is an all-round package with 5G connectivity.
