Kodak, Thomson and Blaupunkt Mini QD TV 55-inch in India from Rs 34999: is it worth buying in 2026?

Kodak, Thomson and Blaupunkt Mini QD TV 55-inch in India from Rs 34999: is it worth buying in 2026?

Kodak, Thomson and Blaupunkt have each launched a 55-inch Mini QD 4K TV on Flipkart for the Big Billion Days sale, at Rs 34999 for the Kodak and Thomson and Rs 35,999 for the Blaupunkt. The sale prices have ended: the Kodak and Thomson sell for around Rs 36,100 and the Blaupunkt for around Rs 37,200.

If you’re wondering who makes Kodak TVs in India: all three brands are licensed here by one company, SPPL, and the three sets list near-identical specs, the same MRP of Rs 54,999 and the same Flipkart seller. So the real question isn’t which badge. It’s whether any of them beats the 55-inch TVs you can already buy on Amazon for similar money.

Thomson TH55QDMini1066 55-inch Mini QD TV, official product render

The Kodak, Thomson and Blaupunkt renders share the same frame, stand and spec badges; only the logo panel and screen image change. No zone count appears beside the “Local Dimming Series” badge.

Price ladder of 55-inch TVs: Xiaomi FX Pro around Rs 35,500, Kodak or Thomson Mini QD around Rs 36,100, Blaupunkt Mini QD around Rs 37,200, Vu Vibe DV around Rs 39,000 and TCL 55Q6C around Rs 60,000, with what each step adds

What you get for about Rs 36000

  • A Mini LED backlight behind a quantum-dot panel. Mini LED only beats an ordinary QLED in dark scenes if the backlight dims in zones. The renders carry a “Local Dimming Series” badge, but no zone count, so how well it dims is unknown.
  • Dolby Vision at 550 nits, plus HDR10+ on the Thomson and Blaupunkt. Netflix streams in Dolby Vision and Prime Video in either, so you get each app’s best version, though 550 nits is modest for HDR highlights.
  • 80 W from four speakers, with Dolby Atmos. That’s a lot of volume for the price, but no bass unit is listed.
  • Google TV with 32 GB of storage and Chromecast built in.

The catch

  • The “120Hz” is HSR on a 60Hz panel. Thomson and Blaupunkt list it as HSR, and Kodak’s matching spec set points the same way. HSR halves the vertical resolution to accept 120Hz, so a PS5 or Xbox in 120fps mode drops below full 4K. Films, shows and cricket aren’t affected.
  • Two HDMI ports. A set-top box and a console fill both, leaving nothing for a soundbar on HDMI ARC.
  • The ratings aren’t for this TV. Thomson’s and Blaupunkt’s 4.3 stars come mostly from their 2025 65- and 75-inch Mini LED sets. Thomson’s versions of those have 288 and 540 dimming zones, 1,500 nits and 108 W, so the 55-inch is a cut-down sibling. Kodak’s listing has no ratings yet.
  • A one-year warranty on all three, for a new model with no track record.

Verdict: skip them for now and buy one of these instead

Until someone measures the dimming and brightness, these are spec sheets, not proven TVs. These three are safer buys, the first two for about the same money:

  • Lowest price: Xiaomi FX Pro QLED 55 (L55MB-FPIN), around Rs 35,500. About Rs 600 less than the Kodak or Thomson, with a long Amazon track record. You give up Dolby Vision and more than half the speaker power (34 W against 80 W), and get Fire TV instead of Google TV.
  • Dolby Vision, big sound and a long warranty: Vu Vibe DV (55VIBE-DV), around Rs 39,000. About Rs 2,900 more keeps Dolby Vision and Google TV and adds an 88 W built-in soundbar and a three-year warranty. It is a plain QLED at 400 nits, so don’t expect Mini LED contrast.
  • If Mini LED matters: TCL 55Q6C, around Rs 60,000. About Rs 24,000 more buys Mini LED dimming the maker confirms, a real 120Hz panel with HDMI 2.1, Dolby Vision IQ and Onkyo 2.1 sound with a bass unit.
