Well, there’s finally some positive news coming out for the Canadian firm. RIM has stated that the Department of Defense in the US has approved the use of the company’s BlackBerry 7 smartphones which includes BlackBerry Bold 9900 and 9930 (touch screen with keyboard), BlackBerry Torch 9810(touchscreen with slide out keyboard), 9850 and 9860 (full touch screen), and BlackBerry Curve 9360 (keyboard).
RIM has added that the Defense and Army personnel will also be able to use other features which the military have added including augmented reality, NFC, voice activated universal research and Social Feeds 2.0. Though, the army and the defense have long been using BlackBerry devices for communication, every time a new model is released it has to be tested and then approved by the appropriate authorities for use by these personnel.
The army and defense have been RIM’s one of the single largest customers till date and the fact that the country’s president Barack Obama uses a modified and tightly controlled model BlackBerry has helped the image of RIM in the US.
However, as it continues to be outpaced and obsolete by the league of Android and iOS devices, its journey southwards is imminent unless RIM can innovate and bring a game changing device to the market.
