Apple iPad Garners 95% Of Global Tablet Shipments

The Apple iPad might not be available in most markets, but wherever it is available, it seems to be doing quite well. Ever since, the product started shipping in April, the iPad has gone on to capture a whopping 95% of the market share globally. While it’s a different story that the iPad came at a time when there were virtually no competing products available, that is no longer the case now.

With the likes of the Samsung Galaxy Tab and the BlackBerry PlayBook ready to arrive soon (Galaxy Tab in just about a week), it would be interesting to see if Apple manages to hold on to this utter domination. Apple sure had the mileage of the Apple brand name and the early start advantage going in its favor. But, on the features front, the Galaxy Tab or the PlayBook – both are comparable to the iPad. It remains to be seen how the market reacts to these new products. There are many other manufacturers who would be releasing their own tablets in 2011, and I have reasons to believe we would see the Tablets market maturing in 2011.

Folks over at Strategy Analytics put the total number of Android Tablet shipments at just 2% as of now. This number will surely change drastically in the next few months. With the amount of Android based Tablets set to arrive in the next few months, don’t you think we would be reading quite different story – say by next year?
