Apple’s Slide-to-unlock Lawsuit Against Samsung on Hold in a German Court

A judge at a regional court  in Mannheim, Germany has delayed the proceedings of a trial in which Apple had slapped a lawsuit on South Korean conglomerate Samsung Electronics for copying its ‘slide-to-unlock’ technology available on iPhone and iPad products.

Reuters reports, that the ruling on the trial has been suspended, as the court is currently waiting for a decision on another lawsuit that involves a similar patent. The decision comes from the same court that had dismissed a similar technology suit involving the same companies two weeks back.

Apple Samsung Patent dispute

Apple has also filed a complaint in Germany, against Motorola over the same ‘slide-to-unlock’ patent. The ‘slide-to-unlock’ technology, helps smartphone user unlock a device by performing gestures on an image along a pre-defined path.

The legal spat between both, Apple and Samsung had started almost a year ago. The current case is just one amongst many, in Germany as well as around the world, in which both manufacturers are involved in intellectual property disputes, to compete in the market worth billion of dollars.

The Cupertino-based company is also involved in legal battles with other smartphone manufacturers who use Google’s Android platform, which rivals Apple’s iOS platform to be the world’s fastest growing mobile software.

Whatever shall be the outcome of the court’s ruling, it is yet to be decided as to who of these two giants will be the undisputed gladiator, to take the biggest market share of the technology arena. As of now Apple is enjoying an undivided attention, due to its recent launch of the New iPad.
