Ducati partners with Videocon, V6200 mobile is born (BUT!)

Videocon isn’t the mobile phone maker that we know for cutting edge next-gen technology or a Apple like super design push. At best Chinese ODM products re-branded, repacked and sold for masses in India. But here is something that raises eye brows. The Videocon V6200 is a Ducati, yes your heard it right, Ducati! Branded cellphone that comes with a rugged design and some sporting features.

On the feature side the V6200 is a roller coaster ride. Ranging from GPS with free life time MapMyIndia loaded on the 4GB card that is packed into the phone the V6200 manages a 2MP camera. In what may please the sporty bones is the Barometer, Compass,  Alimeter, Thermometer and even an UV sensor (yes, for the beauties). The phone has a OLED display on the back display a lot of quick measures like the temperature, a dual LED torch (yes puts your 1100 to shame), a screw frame body that conceals the battery inside and a anti slip rubber finish, which isn’t the toughest (yes its mortal) but still looks real tough for sure.

Aimed to impress bikers / athletes or to present Videocon’s name as a innovator in the market, take it as you like – the V6200 is here and we are promised that based on the ‘pilot’ that this is, a entire series of Ducati branded handsets can come out. The V6200 is expected to retail below Rs. 10,000 in the market – worth it if you like the design and Ducati name, not so worth it if you want a smartphone!

Now the real thing:

Given our past experience with Videocon mobiles, before we run this story its our duty to do a little more research and point out that this particular handset in question looks VERY similar to several rugged phones on Alibaba with same Altimeter, Barometer etc features.

And if that isn’t good enough, do look at the VERYKOOL phone 🙂

  • Hate to sound like a spoilsport but I do hope it looks better than that. Designer phones generally score on the style component – judging by the pictures, this one looks a bit ordinary. Still, a Ducati branded phone for around Rs 10k – I can see people getting swayed by this.

  • Ha ha…. lets just say… the V6200 has inspired a few more copy – designs.

Checked this Handset at Santa Cruz retail outlet, Mumbai. I will say this…. the design is pretty good, it felt nice to hold and Videocon has packed a host of goodies in here. Also liked the unique interface and the dedicated function buttons. The sales-boy did a great job explaining the functions and i am pretty impressed. Loved the Ducati sign-age as well. At 10K, a Ducati association, i am thinking of buying it.

    Will keep ya guys posted.

  • videocon realy looking forward to surprise with there stylish design phones, and yet am surprised by v6200. With the duet with DUCATI, i figured out this handset looks awsome, exterior is remarkable, and and internal features too.BUT What bug me is camera. Should has at least 3mp with flash. But overall nice gizmo to go for 🙂
