Huawei’s sub-brand Honor has recently announced the Honor View 10 and Honor 7X smartphones. The Chinese manufacturer does not seem to be done yet as it has taken off the covers from all the new Huawei Nova 2s smartphone in China on Thursday. It is a full screen design phone that is powered by Kirin 960 chipset. The quad cameras and front-mounted fingerprint scanner are the attractive selling points of the Huawei Nova 2s.
Design and Display
The Huawei Nova 2s has a premium appeal as it features a metallic frame that is flanked between glass panels at its front and rear sides. Its dimensions are 156.9 x 75.1 x 7.5mm and its weight is 169 grams. The customers of the Nova 2s will be able to choose from color variants such as Black, Gray, Red, Rose Gold and Blue.
The Nova 2s features a 6-inch LCD panel that carries support for full HD+ resolution of 2160 x 1080 pixels and a pixel density of 402ppi. Also, it produces an aspect ratio of 18:9. The slim bezel lying below the screen houses a narrow fingerprint scanner enabled home button.
Performance and Variants
The Kirin 960 chipset that is equipped with Mali G71MP8 graphics chip drives the Nova 2s smartphone. It is the same chipset that powers Huawei’s P10 series and Mate 10 series flagship phones. It includes a 3,340mAh battery that is coupled with Huawei’s SuperCharge fast charging technology that allows it to reach zero to 50 percent in just 30 minutes.
The Huawei Nova 2s comes in three models. Its base model has 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The second model features include 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB storage. There is special edition “Yixing Zhang” variant has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. These models feature hybrid dual SIM slot that can be used for adding a microSD card. The smartphone is running on EMU 8.0 based Android 8.0 Oreo.
Cameras and Connectivity
The rear side of the Nova 2s includes an f/1.8 aperture 16-megapixel RGB sensor and an f/1.8 aperture 20-megapixel wide-angle monochrome sensor. The dual rear cameras are equipped with a single-LED flash. The front panel of the phone features an f/2.0 aperture 20-megapixel wide angle lens that is coupled with a secondary 2-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The frontal cameras that are enabled with LED flash also support Face Unlock facial identification feature.
The Nova 2s has a 3.5mm audio jack and a Hi-Fi audio chip. It also includes other connectivity features like USB-C port, Wi-Fi, VoLTE, 4.2 Bluetooth, NFC and GPS.
Pricing and Availability
The Nova 2s will be available for buying starting from Dec. 12 in China. The 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage, 6 GB RAM + 64 GB storage and 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage variants of the smartphone are respectively priced at 2,699 Yuan (~$407), 2,999 Yuan (~$453) and 3,399 Yuan (~$513). As of this writing, there is no information available on whether it will be made available outside of the home country.
