Intel, Hungama Ties Up To Offer High Definition Movies On PC’s

Worlds top chip maker Intel and India’s Hungama.com has entered in to a partnership to showcase its latest movies on Intel’s latest 2nd generation Core processors. Under the terms of the partnership, Hungama users would be able to download full HD movies from the website on machines running the newest core processors with Intel Insider technology. India’s Yash Raj Films are among the first production houses to be a part of this partnership and have offered a collection of their movies  available for download from the site. The service will also offer latest releases available for download.

This download service works in a very interesting manner. For example, the latest released movie would be made available in a manner by which the download of the movie would be completed on the day of the release of the movie. This would enable users to watch the movie in the comfort of their homes without thronging to the nearest cinema. This move is being preferred over streaming the movie directly because of bandwidth constraint that  India faces. These movies would also work on older devices without Intel Insider technology – but only o standard resolution – not HD.

The service would be available for a monthly rental of Rs.249. It remains to be seen if there would be other plans and packages as well.

The announcement was made at an event held in the sidelines of the FICCI Frames at Mumbai where speakers included Yash Chopra and Intel’s Ramamurthy Sivakumar.
