Earlier we covered the news about Motorola Milestone (widely know as the DROID, its CDMA version in US) which hit the Android cell phone space in India. And this is just a follow-up on the same news with Motorola India’s site listing it up for sale either from its numerous store/resellers or quite interestingly enough, through eBay India. Yes, that’s right, eBay. This is for the first time, as far as my knowledge goes, that any company in India (especially someone as big as Motorola) has taken the online medium as one of their official sales channels. Now considering the fact that retailers are not a huge fan of Motorola handsets and are usually skeptical about stocking them up (and with HTC and Samsung having much more widespread presence in the market today), this channel MIGHT prove to be a blessing for Motorola. But then again, we all know the story of how Google Nexus One sales fared, being sold only through the online medium. All the odd’s are staked up against Motorola, unless they dig deep in their pockets to have the likes of AB jr or someone else to do some oongli magic for them :).
The price listed on eBay is around Rs. 30,500/- (free shipping) which should be less than the price at retail stores. Once known as the iPhone killer, it has everything to brag about in the specs department. With Milestone (IMHO) being the best in class Android phone with a slide-out QWERTY keypad (HTC G1 and HTC Dream with the old Android OSs’ being the only other two available in the Indian market) and an asking price little lower than its Apple counterpart, has supposedly brought itself into contention of giving the iPhone a good competition (wow, that rhymed). The only thing left for Motorola to do now is ramp up on its marketing.
Update: A quick check in the market just revealed that you can actually grab a Milestone in India for as cheap as Rs 27000.
Hey, can u tell me where u r getting it for Rs. 27000? Delhi?
