Project Ara At MWC Surpasses ‘Smartphone’ Tag

Previously we had reported the Yezz-Ara collaboration which is developing modules for the first consumer ready version of a modular smartphone. As suggested earlier, Yezz displayed some interesting and innovative unitary modules at this year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC). With modules ranging from the basic requirements like processor and RAM unit, display unit, primary and secondary cameras, etc. to the next generation gaming controller, solar panel covers, LED unit, etc.

Yezz is will develop its own modules for the project. Google is all set for its flagship launch at Puerto Rico. Although there are no details on Project Ara hardware availability in other parts of the world yet. Yezz revealed about 11 modules at the event and said that there are about 80 more modules under development.

Yezz showcased a core standard configuration for the device. It included a 1.5GHz quad-core processor with 1GB RAM unit, 5MP camera module, 4.7-inch HD display unit, speaker and battery unit and other basic features. Modules that grabbed a lot of attention were the gaming controller and the solar cell equipped smart cover. The controller module fits in a 2*2 slot of the endoskeleton and provides users with a true gaming experience.

Solar cell equipped smart cover focuses on the needs of heavy users of smartphones. This module will just be similar to any other flip cover but will charge the cell phone on suitable instances. LED flash unit is designed for the shutterbugs. It will provide extra flash power to the camera units. Other module designs included dual-SIM card holder, NFC enabling unit, a dedicated speaker unit for the multimedia savvy, etc.

Yezz has definitely raised the bar for the upcoming device. With the officials promising for more such interesting modules, it has created a lot of buzz amongst the users. Although the product seemed to look a little bulky, but who wouldn’t want to compromise on that for a complete package of suitable features.
