Sharp rolling out solar powered phone this month
February 1st, 2010 by Annkur

Later this month Sharp is rolling out the SH6230C in Chinese market. Whats special is that, this is the first solar powered mobile from Sharp and another step towards clean tech coming to smartphones. While it would make a much more impact if mainstream cos like Nokia starts to push the green pedal harder (Nokia does have the remade concept and a recycle project for cellphones); we are happy to see commercial launches of cellphones with solar support (the SH6230C is a hybrid). The SH6230C is a clamshell that has a big enough 2.9″ LCD and a 5MP autofocus camera, the solar panel resides on the back. No word on pricing yet (don’t expect his one to be as cheap as the Samsung Guru), this runs Sharp’s proprietary solar cell module.
