After the introduction of the PSP Go, a lot of the gamers felt relieved with Sony dropping its proprietary UMD (Universal Media Disc). Just before the Xperia X10 went official we ended with a cry “don’t over price it please!” and our worst fears come true. Gizmodo reports that the Xperia X10 is priced at $880 by Sony Ericsson.
Whenever SE comes up with a good touchscreen, they over price is to such an extent that it automatically puts the competition several steps ahead. Except the P990i I don’t remember any other touchscreen offering from them retailing below Rs 15000 in India. While I am disappointed, even the HTC HD was priced similarly in India when launched and we can expect similar from the HD2, some how the iPhone in India looks reasonably priced to me now!

Sony may have solved the issue of backwards compatibility for the upcoming PSPGo. On the flip side, those of you who were worried that the new PSPGo wasn’t going to be compatible with the current PSP accessories, will now have something else to worry about.
Sony unveiled its Converter Cable Adaptor which, when attached to the PSPGo (as shown in picture above), will allow its user to connect the current PSP accessories. The adaptor will wrap around the PSPGo and is said to be compatible with peripherals like 1Seg Tuner, GPS Receiver and PSP camera.
“With the new Converter Cable Adaptor, PSPgo users will be able to utilize the existing peripherals for PSP,” Sony announced at the Tokyo Game Show on September 24, 2009.
While the abovementioned quote is true, mounting accessories atop this bulky adaptor (while attached to the PSPGo, mind you!) will definitely bring the most important part of the PSP into question, namely its portability. We believe that you’d be better off dropping some money for new peripherals instead, but *then* you’ll be faced with the expensive aspect of this option. Oh the dilemma!

The console wars are all set to enter a new phase. Consider the evidence: Microsoft has revealed the Xbox 360 Elite and is readying a much more radical device for late 2010, complete with the player-as-a-controller Project Natal. Sony has come out with a slimmer PS3 and is looking to come out with UMD-less PSP Go in a month or two, even while working on bringing out a motion-sensing edition of the PS3 a bit later (yep, with the PS3 wand).
There is a name missing out there, right? Well, yes, it is that of the company that is actually been leading both Microsoft and Sony by the nose in the console business over the last year and a half – Nintendo. The Wii made fair mincemeat of the PS3 and Xbox 360, while the Nintendo DS has pretty much buried the Sony PSP.
But will that state of affairs continue? Both Sony and Microsoft are working hard to neutralise the Wii’s motion-sensing edge and the (more…)

Sony has confirmed the existence of a Slimmer version of its latest gaming console, the Playstation 3 (PS3). The rumors of a PS3 Slim is being heard of since a long time, however its only now that the 120GB Slim Playstation 3 has been confirmed for an September launch. PS3 loses 36% weight and 1/3rd of its volume (32% smaller) in the slimmer version. This comes without compromising the features like inbuilt Blu-ray and WiFi.
The 120GB PS3 slim would cost $299 (and hit the stores in first week of September) while the regular 80GB PS3 shall cost $299 from tomorrow today (and might well be discontinued after the Slim version goes mainstream). Sony has managed to reduce the manufacturing cost of the PS3 by 70%, and would hope to better compete with the Microsoft’s Xbox and the Nintendo Wii.

As reported earlier by us and as per rumors Sony indeed has filed a patent for a advanced Gaming Cellphone but it is learnt that its NOT based on its popular PSP. Sony has previously used its brand names CybetShot & Walkman to promote its cellphones.
In a phone interview with Reuters UK, Sony Ericsson spokesperson Merran Wrigley commented that, “We’re continually evaluating other propositions but they have to be credible propositions. We’re not interested in sticking parts on phones that destroy the brand equity that’s been built up by Sony,”
Sony Ericsson plans to unveil products featuring music and imaging capabilities rather than gaming features at an event scheduled to take place in Berlin on June 14, Wrigley said.
The announcement comes two weeks before Apple launches sales of its widely anticipated music-playing iPhone in the United States on June 29

A row has developed between Manchester Cathedral in England and Sony, about its Playstation game Resistance: Fall of Man that has the church threatening to take the giant game manufacturer to court.
At the heart of the conflict is a scene in the war game that takes place in the cathedral nave involving the shooting and killing of hundreds of virtual enemies.
The Church of England asserts that Sony didnt
Sony Replies:
“Sony Computer Entertainment Europe is aware of the concerns expressed by the Bishop of Manchester and the Cathedral authorities about the use of Manchester Cathedral in the game Resistance: Fall of Man, and we naturally take their concerns very seriously. Resistance: Fall of Man is a fantasy science fiction game and is not based on reality. The game is set in an alternate and mythical version of Europe in the 1950s, in which the enemy are strange looking alien invaders seeking to destroy humanity.”
The statement continues:
“Whilst we believe that we have sought and received all permissions necessary for the creation of the game, we will be contacting the Cathedral authorities in order to better understand their concerns in more detail.”

Although the PSP’s recent price drop from $200 to $170 has led many to speculate that a hardware redesign is in the works for the handheld system, one analyst in particular has drawn his most recent prediction from Sony’s Gamers Day event earlier this week.
Colin Sebastian, an analyst with Lazard Capital Markets, strongly believes that the company is working on the development of a new and improved PSP, based on several implications made during one Sony presentation in particular. In his recap of the event, Sebastian stated that, in addition to the video download service and the 140 planned titles for the PSP, the company indicated that a “hardware refresh” was also to be expected later this year.
Sony recently dropped the prices on the PSP so consumers shouldn’t expect this new PSP for at least a few months but if it is coming it will certainly be here before the Christmas rush.

Sony has introduced the world’s first 12.1-megapixel compact digital camera, the Cybershot DSC-W200.
The company says that the DSC-W200 combines an amazing detail of 12.1-megapixel resolution with high sensitivity for shooting without a flash even in very low light.
Besides, the DSC-W200 has advanced high-tech features like Face Detection, D-range optimization, in-camera retouching, and red-eye reduction, along with Super Steady Shot image stabilization that keeps blur to a minimum, the company says. And for shooting and sharing on location, it has a large 2.5-inch LCD screen that makes viewing exceptionally easy.
With a compact Silver Aluminum body, the camera also has high definition (HD) output for displaying still images on HDTV screens, optical viewfinder, and Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens.
Sony says the DSC-W200, which has more megapixels than most digital cameras, is able to capture greater image definition to enable big prints and tight crops without losing sight of detail.
The advanced Super Hole Accumulated Diode (HAD) CCD design allows more light to pass through each pixel, thus increasing sensitivity and reducing noise.
Other key features include: Sony Bionz processor for improved picture quality and high-speed operation; DRO technology for automatic contrast and exposure correction; HD slideshow with music for playback on camera LCD screen or HDTV; up to 300 shots with LCD screen on; MPEG Movie VX (VGA 30fps movie mode with audio); PictBridge for direct connection to printer without need for PC; and 31MB of internal memory.
The camera has an on-screen function guide, along with an on-screen menu in choice of 17 languages, including Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Swedish, and Turkish.
The camera is supplied with a rechargeable battery, charger, AV and USB cables, wrist strap, and is compatible with a wide range of optional Sony accessories.
Meanwhile, the DSC-W200 will be available within a month’s time in India through Sony branded stores, and will likely carry a price tag of Rs 17,000 approximately.
