Well, here is another rumor for the day in which DigiTimes claims that HTC is working on a 5 inch display laden Android smartphone with a resolution of 1080p which is expected to launch some time in September or October.
DigiTimes also adds that the display would have a resolution of 1794 x 1080 which should be a 1920×1080 display with about 126 vertical lines omitted to accommodate Android’s on-screen navigation buttons which were first introduced with Ice Cream Sandwich.
The device has also appeared earlier on GLBenchmark website in July with a codename of HTC 6435LVW. And as per the details on the site the device is also said to have Qualcomm’s MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 SoC paired with Adreno 320 graphics. The chip on the device is clocked at 1.5 GHz and should be adept enough to support the resolution on the device.
With HTC trying to play catch up with Samsung, the device looks in line to take on the Galaxy Note which started the trend of 5 inch plus smartphones in the market. And with its unprecedented success it would not be a bad idea for HTC to play Samsung’s game of large displays with impressive specs at aggressive price points. Samsung is already working on launching a second iteration of the Galaxy Note.
Unfortunately HTC has not managed to revive its flagging fortunes even after the success of the much appreciated One series. They have even been forced to exit markets in Brazil and South Korea due to non-performance issues. We hope that HTC manages to pull this one off, they need a follow up to the successful One series which would help facilitate HTC’s climb northwards again.
