While everyone has been busy talking about the Move, the Kinect and the next DS, a new player has made its move into the gaming arena. It is none other than Panasonic, which is talking about what seems to be a totally online gaming device, featuring titles like BattleStar Galactica. Details are very sketchy but Panasonic have released a teaser site with a video that depicts a device called the Jungle that looks like a small notebook, which many people say comes with a complete QWERTY keypad and runs on Linux OS. The site says that it will come with a “kick ass display, touch pad, keyboard, and other gaming controls that we’ll be saying more about soon.”
Needless to say, we are intrigued. The three main portable gaming devices in the market as of now – the Apple iPod touch, the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP, all are mainly about offline gaming, although there is support for online multiplayer too. A device that totally revolves around online gaming would be something very interesting indeed. Yes, there will be questions about data connectivity, operator tie-ups and number of titles, but as of now, we are just delighted to see a new participant entering the console wars. And with a new angle to boot. Welcome to the Jungle!
