The XOOM tablet and the Atrix (with its laptop dock) might have grabbed all the headlines, but Motorola has not ignored its Android range of smartphones at CES. The company which has been riding high on Android since the high-profile launch of the Droid in 2009, showed off two more handsets running Google’s operating system, the Cliq 2 and the Droid Bionic.
Of the two, the Droid Bionic is easily much more impressive on paper, with a dual core processor with each core running at 1GHz, delivering up to two GHz of processing power, and 512 MB RAM, a 4.3 inch qHD display (it is an all touchscreen device), HDMI connectivity (you can plug it to a HD TV), support for the high-speed LTE network, and a 8.0 MP camera at the back.
The Cliq 2 comes with a 3.7 inch display, a slide out QWERTY keyboard, a 1 GHz processor, and a 5.0 MP camera. The Cliq 2 will be running Android 2.2, but there is no statement yet on whether the Droid Bionic will be running 2.2 or 2.3 – we are certainly hoping for the latter. While the Cliq 2 is expected to be launched in the US on January 19, no dates were specified for the Droid Bionic.
