At the upcoming CTIA Wireless Conference which kicks off on March 22, 2011 Opera is likely to introduce new versions of its popular mobile browsers. According to a press release by the company, both the browser versions – Opera Mobile and Opera Mini would see a major update happening. Opera Mobile for example would move from version 10 to 11 while Opera Mini would graduate from version 5 to 6.
If you are still in he dark as to what the difference between the two is, here’s a brief explanation. Opera Mobile is Opera’s full fledged browser for smartphones. The mini on the other hand will work on Java powered, non smartphones that are usually priced lesser. Both the browsers however have similar user interfaces thanks to Opera’s policy of having a universal UI across multiple platforms.
What is not known now is if Opera will make a major change to the UI in the new versions. There would be feature additions for sure -mostly for Opera Mobile which *might* also get a version for Windows Phone 7. (Opera in the press release says Windows 7 – we’re not sure if they meant Windows 7 the desktop OS or Windows Phone 7!) . Symbian also gets mentioned in the list of supported smartphone OS’es.
At the show, they will also display the browser running on the iphone and the iPad. Now thats gonna be interesting for sure!
